1 General Information
The Siemens 7SD610 XRIO Converter is designed for testing Siemens 7SD610 line differential relays by
using the OMICRON Test Universe Software TU2.30. The XRIO Converter provides all necessary data for
testing the line differential and overcurrent functions of the 7SD610 relays.
Note: This XRIO Converter was developed to be used with the relays described above. But, it may also
work with other similar 7SD610 line differential protection relays. The XRIO Converter may also be used
for testing similar relays, too.
Important:
• This XRIO Converter doesn't support the presence of a transformer in the protected zone.
• The XRIO Converter is not compatible with the XRIO settings export from DIGSI versions prior to
4.81.
5 Functional Range
The Siemens 7UM62 XRIO Converter implements the following functions:
• 87 Line Differential protection (see the note below)
• 50/51 Definite Time and Timed Overcurrent protection
Note: If you want to use the 7SD610 XRIO Converter for testing similar relays such as the 7SD610 relays
for protection of two terminals lines, ensure that the terminal count in the Additional Parameters section
of the XRIO Converter is set to 2.
Some of the functions use the RIO interface of the Test Universe software. Consequently, the test
modules are configured automatically without using LinkToXRIO. The following functions use the RIO
interface:
• 87 Line Differential protection
• 50/51 Definite Time and Timed Overcurrent protection
For testing functions that are not supported by the RIO interface, you must use LinkToXRIO.
After the relay settings have been imported successfully, a message box showing the number of imported
parameters appears.
Additionally, the imported parameters are shown as Information in the Error View of the Test Object.
When the import of a parameter fails, it gets shown as an error or warning in the Error View.
9.1 7SD610
The 7SD610 section is sub-divided into four groups: the Relay Parameter Section, the Additional
Information section, the RIOplus section and the Template Controller section.
The block General includes detailed information needed for the test report like manufacturer, device type,
substation name etc. These parameters are linked to the NamePlate block in RIOplus and from there to
the Device block in RIO. Thus these parameters are available in the protocol report of the Test Universe
software. This section includes parameters which have to be changed by the user.
The block Relay Information contains relay specific parameters such as tolerances or angles of
directional elements which cannot be set by the user, because they are constant values. All values set in
this block can be found in the chapter "Technical Data" of the relay's documentation. Typically, this block
does not have to be changed.
The block Line Data includes additional line information needed for testing the relay protection function
with OMICRON Test Universe software, e.g. line length unit. This section includes parameters which have
to be changed by the user.
The block Circuit Breaker Information includes information which is required for the CB test. This
section includes parameters which have to be changed by the user.
The block Test Tolerance includes an additional test tolerance to calculate the start and end value for trip
and pick-up tests by using the OMICRON TU Ramping or State Sequencer module. Typically, this block
does not have to be changed.
The block Relay Parameter Section (Remote Relay) includes the necessary information needed from
the remote side to execute the end to end test for the line differential function successfully. This section
includes parameters which have to be set prior to testing.
9.2 RIO
The RIO section of the XRIO Converter contains all specialized RIO functions needed to use the more
specialized test modules (like Advanced Differential or Overcurrent) provided by the OMICRON Test
Universe software.
Warning:
• Do not change any value in this section. The values have been set using the relay settings of the
Relay Parameter Section.
• Do not activate the former test object view in the advanced mode of the XRIO test object.
Changing parameters in this view could disable formulas in the RIO section.
9.2.1 Device
The RIO Device block contains general data for the characterizations of the protected object and relay
e.g. manufacturer or substation name. Furthermore the block contains the information about the current
and voltage transformers and the maximum values and limits for the CMC output currents and voltages.
9.2.3 Distance
The Distance function provides the current transformer starpoint. the connection side of the current
transformer defines the direction of the test currents for the OMICRON TU test modules QuickCMC,
Ramping, State Sequencer and for the Advanced modules.
9.2.4 Overcurrent
The RIO Overcurrent function contains the overcurrent characteristics for the phase-phase and phase-
ground faults. This block is filled with the corresponding test values.
Note: There can be only one active timed overcurrent (IDMT) stage at a time which must have the
smallest pickup value of all active overcurrent stages.
