Model Essay: Compare and Contrast

Apples and Oranges
Fruits are an essential part of our everyday meal. They
keep us healthy and fit. Today we are going to discuss about two such fruits –
apples and oranges. Though they are completely different types of fruits, they
have some similarities and differences between them.

Apples and oranges are both round in shape. Apples as well as

oranges can be made into juice, either cider or orange juice .They have very few
seeds in them too. Apples like oranges grow on trees. Apples are rich in iron
similarly oranges are rich in vitamin C. They both are healthy and delicious fruits
too.

Now, let’s talk about their differences. Apples are red, yellow or
green whereas oranges are orange in appearance. Apples have a very thin skin
which is shiny and smooth and you don’t have to peel them to eat, but oranges
have a very thick, bumpy skin called the rind and you can’t eat them without
peeling. Apples grow mostly in cold climates; however, oranges grow in hot
climate. Apples are grown in orchards while oranges are grown in groves. When
you bite into an apple it is crunchy and sweet. On the contrary, when you bite
into an orange, it is luscious, pulpy and sweet.

I relish eating an apple more than an orange as it’s rightly said ‘An
apple a day keeps the doctor away.’ My mother also makes finger-licking apple
tarts and pies during the weekends or on special occasions and I look forward to
eating them.
