OBJECTIVE: Execute the different skills involved in the game.

This module will help us determine and execute the different skills involved in
playing games, target games in particular.

Being involved in physical activities such as target games requires the use of
different skills.

1. PRETEST

Directions: Look for at least 5 skills involved or developed in target games in the Word Search
box below. You may find the words vertically, horizontally, in slant, downward or upward. Draw
a line on the skill you find. List them down on the space provided.

3. DISCUSSION

Part of Filipino Culture is to search for entertainment and enjoyment. One of the
sources is through games. The most played games by most of the Filipinos are Target Games.
Target Games are either played indoor or outdoor. In an unopposed game, the
contender only aims to hit the target, while in an opposed game, the player uses offensive or
defensive strategies to goal. Target games can be played individually or in groups.

Skills Involved in Target Games


1. Coordination – using your senses at the same time.
2. Agility – changing direction quickly.
3. Endurance – tolerating exhaustion.
4. Reaction Time – reacting quickly to opponent’s movement.
5. Flexibility – stretching or movong your body parts smoothly and effortlessly.
6. Speed – moving quickly.
7. Strength – using energy when moving.
8. Balance – not tumbling down when standing or doing a physical activity.

4. ACTIVITY

Warm-up Activity

Directions: Do the following in place with 16 counts each activity.

1. Jog in place 7. Spread your arms turn

2. Head turn to the right
8. Bend your right knee up
3. Head turn to the left
9. Bend your left knee up
4. Right arms stretched to the left

5. Left arms stretched to the right 10. Jumping jacks

Now, you are in great shape. All these warm up exercises involve different skills. These
involve balance, speed, strength, coordination, flexibility and endurance.

Physical Activity

Are you familiar with the game Chinese Garter?

Chinese garter is a popular game for Filipino children most specially for girls in their
elementary years. This game revolves around an ordinary garter around two to three yards
long that can be brought easily. The objective of this game is to successfully jump over the
garter as it is gradually held high by the posts or the opponent holding it.

Directions: Make two groups, each group has two to three members to play Chinese Garter.
Make sure to play safe and follow the rules of the game responsibly.

Procedures and rules of Chinese Garter:

1. The players are divided into two groups with two or more members.

2. The “it” will be chosen with the use of “bato-bato-pick”

3. The “it” team will serve as posts who will stand and hold the ends of the
garter.

4. Each team should have a leader called “Mother” or “Father”. When a team
member touches the garter or fails a level during his / her turn, the mother /
father can still save the team member by taking the member’s turn.

5. If the mother or father fails, they become the next game posts and the
game starts from level one.

6. The mother or father jumps over the garter on the last level by jumping
high or by doing a cartwheel.

The game has Ten levels. This game may have different levels depending on the
agreement of the players.

Level 1 – Feet level or close to the ground

Level 2 – Knee high

Level 3 – Hip high

Level 4 – Waist high

Level 5 – Chest high

Level 6 – Shoulder high

Level 7 – Head high

Level 8 – Top of head high

Level 9 – One hand high from head

Level 10 – Arm rising and the posts doing tiptoe

Always remember the safety precautions in playing games; do stretching, wear


proper attire, use appropriate equipment, check the weather outside if you plan to do it
outdoors and check your health condition

I guess you’re ready to play the game. You may start playing and enjoying Chinese
Garter.
