ABOUT VERVE

VERVE, like the name suggests is the spirit of JSS Academy of Technical Education,
Bengaluru. The grandeur of the fest is something that is known all across Bengaluru.
VERVE sees a whopping 25,000+ attendees over 30+ events. It is spread across 3 days.
VERVE is not only limited to the 3 days of the techno-cultural fest but has many events
leading to the main fest. It includes events like Hackwell, JSS Run and other events. VERVE
is known all across Bengaluru for its magnitude. It holds pride in the fact that it has hosted
great artists like Farhan Akhtar, Neeti Mohan, Benny Dayal, Armaan Malik, Nucleya, Shirley
Setia and many more. The event has been a legacy till date, always being held in the month
of April/May.

This year, the world has decided to go "all plugged in," and VERVE has also decided to
follow the trend, which is why JSSATE-B is presenting you VERVE 2021 in an entirely new
online experience. It's all set to go live on your screens, in the comfort of your houses.

ABOUT JSS ACADEMY OF TECHNICAL


EDUCATION, BENGALURU

Located at the southwestern outskirts of Bangalore is an almost quarter-century-old


institute, JSS Academy of Technical Education (JSSATE-B), under the umbrella of JSS
Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru. Sprawling over 21.17 acres of lush green lands, JSSATE is the
result of the vision of its President, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra
Mahaswamiji, and has been imparting quality Engineering & Management Education ever

STANDARD RULES

1. All the participants must adhere to the rules of the particular events.
2. The decision of the judges shall be nal and binding in all cases. 
3. A stable and consistent internet connection is a must. The organisers shall not be held
responsible for any inconsistent internet connections.
4. Any vulgarity/obscenity/abuse shall not be entertained.
5. Participants are required to follow the timelines strictly.
6. Any form of malpractice may lead to disquali cation.

AIR CRASH

If impersonation is your thing, then you got this event in the bag. This is an individual event,
where participants get to play a popular character to convince the judges why they deserve
to be saved in the situation of a plane crash, by getting a parachute.

Rules
• It is an individual event. The event will be conducted in 2 stages.
• For the rst stage, a recorded clip of 90 seconds has to be sent. Out of which, 30 seconds
should be for introduction and 60 seconds should be dedicated to enacting the
character.
• The selected participants (max 25) will compete in the following stages.
• The second stage consists of three rounds:
- In the rst round, the contestants shall introduce themselves as the character.
- In the second round, an announcement of a crash is made, and the contestants have
to address why they should be given the parachute.
- In the third round, the participants will have to go through a series of questions from
the judges.
• If any contestant wants to object to a fellow contestants’ statement, he/she can use the
“raise hand” feature present on the platform.
• The characters for the second round shall be given 24 hours before the event.
• The participant is expected to resemble the character as closely as possible and should
mimic the character's tone and speech.
• The contestants are requested to speak a common language — English. Punchlines can
be delivered in the original language.

VIVACE

Singing is an inspiring, yet intangible path of expression. This is a perfect stage for you to
sing your heart out. It is an individual singing event. The competition will be divided into
two categories: Western and Eastern. Each participant will be given a maximum of 90
seconds to perform.

• Karaoke is not allowed.

- For the second round, the selected participants will have to perform live for 90

VERBATTLE

Debating matters because opinions matter. This event emphasizes debaters' knowledge
and clear thinking over points of order and rhetorical flourishes. It is an individual
interactive debate competition where participants will be grouped and will compete
against each other.

Rules
• The event will comprise 3 rounds.
• All the participants will be given the topic 45 minutes before the commencement of the
event.
• The participants will be given a time limit of one minute for each round.
• In the rst round the participants are required to introduce themselves and state their
arguments regarding the topic.
• The second round will be a rebuttal round. Every participant can rebut their competitors
for 1 minute.
• In the third round the participants can choose to rebut their opponents or present their
arguments and present a conclusion for their argument.
• The participants are required to turn on their video and audio at all times during a
particular round.

GLAM & GLAZE

Glamour is about con dence and really owning the look, here is a perfect opportunity to
showcase your talent. The participants must make a transition video containing a before
and after look. This makeup contest judges the participant’s makeup skills and creativity.

Rules
• The event is conducted in 2 rounds.
• A still before putting on make-up must be included in the video. Filters cannot be used in
the video. Any music can be used in the video. Do not use these hashtags on an old video
that has already been uploaded.
• For the rst round, the contestants will have 24 hours to create their look and make a 15
to 30 second video on the theme given to them 24 hours before the event.
• Within exactly 24 hours, all videos should be posted on Instagram as a reel or a post using
the hashtags provided. It should also be uploaded on Google Drive and this link must be
emailed to verve@jssateb.ac.in with the subject “Glam & Glaze - <Registration No>”
where the Registration No is the actual Registration No on the pass (from MeraEvents).
• 12 hours after the upload (at 9 PM), likes and comments on the post will be taken into
consideration.
• For the second round, the participants must create a look based on the theme they are
assigned. Uploading on Instagram is not necessary.
• The contestants will have 6 hours to send in their videos along with 2 photos of the
nished look.
• A poll on the VERVE Instagram page will be considered in case of a tie.
• 3 hours after submitting the videos, the winner will be announced on Google Meet.

POET’S PODIUM

Come and explore the power of language in this fun and creative event where voices are
heard beyond all barriers. Let the poet and spoken word artist bring to life your truth ,your
poetry and your ideas setting the stage ablaze. Express your soul and hail the art of poetry
with us.

Rules
• The participants will be given the link and will be asked to join the Google Meet 5
minutes prior to the event. Topic will be given on spot.
• Volunteers will be present in the room to provide any assistance required and to monitor
the participants.
• Participants must keep their videos on and the device should be placed at a distance and
they should mute themselves. The queries can be asked in the chat box.
• Once they nish, the participants must upload their works on google forms and the link
to Google forms will be shared on the chat box.
• Duration of this event is 45 minutes, where the participants will get 40 minutes to
perform the poetry and 5 minutes to upload the pages.
• Participants need to mention their names on the top right end of the page that are
submitted.
• After the submission, the participants will be called out to read their piece. At this
instance, they are to unmute themselves and read out their piece.
• The poem should be 8 sentences (minimum) long, which has to express the emotion with
regard to the given topic.
• The time taken will be used as a tiebreaker.

Creating art is reuniting and recording fragments of thoughts and feelings. This event is a
perfect podium for expressing yourself through your art. This is a traditional art contest,
where a theme will be released on VERVE Instagram page, the participants will have to
either sketch or paint according to the given theme.

• Any kind of colours can be used. The art form should be either sketching or painting.
• Do not use your old art for the contest.
• The event will have two rounds.

• The participants should make the time lapse video of the whole art process and submit it
with their respective art works.

presented live in their own style.

VALORANT

Valorant is a 5v5 tactical rst-player shooter to showcase your skills based on the di erent
agents and maps available with your squad. The rst team to win 13 rounds wins the map.

Rules
• The matches will take place in bracket form. It will be conducted in competitive settings.
• Each team bans 1 map out of 3 random maps from the 6 maps.
• Any team that doesn't play in their given time slot will be disquali ed.
• All members of the team must be on discord (necessary for everyone to stay connected
on voice) unless the team requests admins for in-game chat.
• All the team members must be online at the given time to choose the sides and maps.
• All team members must be on their respective voice channels during the match.
• Party chat and Team chat has to be enabled in-game to make it easier to communicate
with the host in case of issues.
• In case, the match goes into overtime, the participants have to play it till a team wins.
• If anyone faces issues in the rst round, the match can be restarted twice. If any
participant disconnects in the middle they will be given 2 minutes to rejoin the game.

WEB DESIGNING

Designing is thinking made visual. A technical event where all the participants will be given
a UI template and all the participants are required to design a webpage in a desktop as well
as a mobile view based on the given template.

Rules
• Every participant must have a GitHub account and have to join the given GitHub
Classroom prior to the event.
• The UI template and all the necessary icons and images will be posted on the GitHub
Classroom and the participants are given 2 hours to submit their code on the same
platform.
• The participants are asked to design the webpage which has to be applicable for a
desktop and a mobile view.
• The participants are not allowed to use any third-party frameworks including Bootstrap
and jQuery. The design must contain vanilla CSS and JavaScript.
• The participants will be judged based on the similarity to the prototype given and
responsiveness. Ties will be broken based on performance results on Lighthouse and
usage of semantic HTML.

musings. It is an individual event based on personality, where every participant is required
to think and react on his/her feet. Spontaneity and creativity will win you the title of “Best

• The event will have 4 rounds.
• For the rst round, all participants will be sent a questionnaire. The participants are
required to ll the form and submit it within the stipulated time frame of 30 minutes.
• Second round will be an introduction round where all the participants are required to
present themselves in a creative and innovative manner. The time limit for each
participant for the introduction will be 45 seconds.
• Third round is going to be round table discussion on Google Meet. The participants will
be judged based on how clear their opinions are and how innovatively they can present
themselves and their views. There will be an elimination after this round.
• The number of topics presented to the participants will defer based on the extent of
engagement. The topics will be disclosed on spot.
• Fourth round will consist of a one on one session with the judges’ panel where every
participant will be asked tricky and indulging questions. The participants will be judged
based on how witty their answers are and how quickly they can think when put in a spot.
• The participant must understand that the panelists mean no disrespect.
• Every other participant must be respected for their opinion.

EMOCEAN (MONO ACTING)

A mono act is a scene with only one person physically present who is acting and reacting as
though there was another person there. This is a place where you can dramatise,
exaggerate and elaborate all at once.

The time limit for the rst round is 2-4 mins.
• For the rst round you can choose a topic of your choice for the act.
• The second round is the nal round, where the quali ed contestants will have to perform
on the topic provided and upload it to the given platform. The time limit for the second
round is 3-5 mins.
• It is mandatory to perform only to the given topic in the nal round.

CRYPTICS

With science and technology growing at such an overwhelming rate, the search for a
remarkable intellect can be simpli ed with a technical quiz. With a wide array of questions
from numerous technical topics, this is one event that will breach the boundaries of one’s
technical lore.

Rules
• Anyone found using unfair means shall be immediately disquali ed.
• The webcam is to be switched on along the duration of the quiz.
• There are 3 rounds.
• The rst round will be a general Technology Trivia with a time limit of 10 seconds per
question. The speed and accuracy here is critical to enter the further rounds.
• In the buzzer round, contestants will be given code words (for each round) enabling the
participants to answer the question asked, else the answer is deemed invalid.
• Subsequent rounds will have a variety of questions shall be in the form of multiple choice,
true/false statement, visuals, speci c-answer question, etc, that are domain speci c.
• In case of tie between 2 or more contestants, further 5 questions would be asked for nal
selection.

DIGITAL ARISTO

• Time-lapse/video of creating the artwork is compulsory and must be submitted within 15

• The artwork with the most votes on VERVE Instagram page will receive an additional

SHARK TANK

Have a vision for something and a want to create? Shark tank is the place to be- an online
event where the participants have to come up with an innovative and ingenious proposal
for a start-up.

Rules
• The project idea can be related to a growing research area of any eld.
• The team should have a minimum of 2 participants and a maximum of 4.
• The rst round is a qualifying round, where the team has to send a presentation of 8-12
slides. The presentation has to be submitted before 10th July, 2021 via email to
verve@jssateb.ac.in with the subject “Shark Tank - <Registration No>” where the
Registration No is the actual Registration No on the pass (from MeraEvents).
• The teams with an appealing proposal will qualify for the nal round.
• In the nal round, the qualifying team will pitch in their ideas to the judges using their
presentation. Each team will be provided 8 minutes out of which 5 minutes should be
used to explain their idea and the remaining 3 minutes will be allocated for a Q&A session
with the judges.
• The teams will be provided with respective time slots and are requested to join the panel
according to the schedule.

CHECKMATE

Chess is a war over the board. Get ready to show o your moves this VERVE! This event has
multiple rounds of ‘5-minute blitz’ chess games, where the players are not eliminated like
the usual chess knockout competition.

Rules
• This event consists of 5 rounds, where every participant plays each round. Each round will
be a ‘5mins Blitz’ chess game.
• In the rst round, pairings are done by matching players of similar ratings.
• In the following rounds, pairings are based on performance. Winners are matched with
other winners and vice-versa.
• Every player will be given a link to join the club and all the players should join it one day
prior to the event.
• The players should join the tournament an hour before the scheduled time.
• If two players’ total score is tied, then the winner will be decided based on the tiebreaker
points.
• If the number of players in that round is uneven, then there will be a player with no
pairing. This unmatched player gets, 'bye'. A bye means you do not play a game that
round, but still get 1 point.
• A player's tiebreak score is calculated by adding the score points of the players they have
defeated and half of the score points of players they have drawn against.

of 2021”. An individual event, where every participant will have to answer the questions
based on various movies in di erent ways and have to go through 3 interesting rounds put
up by the panel.

• The rst round will be general questions which have to be answered within 10 seconds.
The second round has questions based on song translation, which have to be answered
within 20 seconds. The third round will have questions based on movie description,
which also has to be answered within 20 seconds. 
• Tie breaker will be decided through a rapid re round.

BANK HEIST
Do you have the knack for solving puzzles? If you have what its takes, then participate in
our very own virtual escape room. The event will take place through Google Meet and
password-protected PDFs. The puzzles on Google Meet will give you the password to the
subsequent PDFs and the clues in the pdfs will give you the codes for the Google Meet.

Rules
• This is a virtual escape room. The backstory should be read thoroughly to understand the
situation.

• The passwords and codes for all the PDFs and Google Meet rooms are in a small case
without any spaces. Example: If the password is a vehicle number say KA 13 EE 9999, the
password is ka13ee9999
• The rst team to enter the nal Google Meet will be considered for rst place and the
team will have to verify their details. This can be done by submitting all the solved
passwords and Google Meet codes in the google forms which will be given in the nal
Google Meet. The passwords and the codes should be in order or the team will be
disquali ed.

WIKI RACE

The objective of this game is to race from one Wikipedia page to another, using the given
key words. The initial word and the nal word are given by the coordinators. Using the initial
word link , the participants have to reach the nal word page.

• Visiting other sites is prohibited.
• Usage of the keyboard in any way is forbidden.
• The use of links under the External links section is not allowed. Additionally, links from
the category/navigation table on the bottom of the Wikipedia page should not be
accessed.
