I-Witness: 'Pigil Hininga,' dokumentaryo ni Kara David

Watching the documentary film “Pigil Hininga” has made me cry. Poverty is
obviously visible in our country, Badjao’s like Juli was in the situation called “Isang
kahig, isang tuka”. What they’ve been through wasn’t easy, imagine living almost all
your life in the depths of the ocean, preying some fish in just one dive, it is indeed
very risky and life-threatening. But he doesn’t have a choice, he needs to raised and
feed his family, and sustain their living.
We are fortunate because we haven’t experienced or we are not in the same
place as them, we don’t need to dive into deep waters just to get food, we are not
risking our lives just to sustain our daily needs, and we don’t need to “malimos” in
the street. It breaks my heart that after risking his life underwater, he just got a little
money from it and what it makes me sadder is that they have to divide it with his
companions. Imagine risking your life, keeping your breath underwater, and just paid
back with just a small amount of money it is very heartbreaking for me.
Furthermore, I am amazed by the life of Kuya Juli, because he chooses to
continue his living by risking his life in the deep waters rather than “malimos” in city
streets. He continues what the real Badjao’s do for a living that’s more likely into the
ocean water not in the city streets.
All in all, I was touched by the documentary film. I conclude that we all have
different lives, there’s a lot fortunate people but majority of us faced poverty. Like
Kuya Juli experiences life was indeed never made easy. We must be thankful that
we don’t have to risk our lives into deep waters, damage our eardrums, stay in into
deep water for more than 2 minutes to catch some fish for just small amount of
money in return.
