Implementation lesson after the LTT in Greece

Title: Geometry and Application Subject: Maths and Arts

Age: 10 Teacher’s name: Country: Bulgaria
(4th grade) Toshko Tonev,
Neli Ivanova
Objectives The main objectives:
1. Generalization of knowledge about the studied geometric figures:
 recognition and naming;
 finding their circumferences;
 comparison of their circumferences;
 recognition and naming of different types of angles;
 naming the applied triangles according to their sides and angles.
2. Measurement of the sides of the geometric figures in millimeters;
3. Discovering of geometric figures in different types of art: drawing,
application, design, etc.;
4. Making an application with the help of various geometric figures from
colored paper;
5. Ability to present the completed task;
6. Ability to evaluate and self-evaluate the work performed.

Students will develop:

Students will update their competencies to:
 recognition of geometric shapes;
 accurate use of the studied terminology;
 use the knowledge in practice;
 precise measurement in millimeters;
 the connection between mathematics and art.

Materials and Measuring instruments / line, triangle /, pencils, colored papers, scissors, glue.
equipment

Procedure
Step 1: The teacher presents to the students how people use different geometric
shapes to create art: drawings, applications, design.
The topic of the lesson is announced and a task is set to make an application.
Students independently make an application of colored paper using the studied
Step 2: geometric shapes: straight, curved line, segment, beam, triangle, rectangle,
square and circle. Students are shown a cutting technique in which two identical
halves of the figure are obtained.

The students present the made applications. They tell what they did and what
Step 3: geometric shapes they used.

Setting a task for measuring the sides of the geometric figures used for the
application, finding a comparison of their circumferences.
Step 4:
Counting the types of angles in geometric figures /straight, sharp and obtuse/.
Determining the type of triangles according to their sides and angles.

Setting a task to use and transfer the knowledge in practice. Students are asked
to find a practical way to measure the length of a circle of cut out circles of
Step 5: paper.

Evaluation Teacher's observations.

The teachers give the assessment of activity and the degree of performance of
students' tasks.

Student selfevaluation.
Students express their self-esteem for:
 their activity;
 degree of fulfillment of the set tasks;
 the difficulties in the process of performing the set tasks;
 their feelings during the lesson.
