Implementation lesson after the LTT in Greece

Objectives The main objectives:
- To revise and consolidate the forms and the use of Present Simple and
Present Continuous.
- To consolidate the already learned key words of the two tenses.
- Be able to recognize and use properly action and non-action verbs
(stative verbs).

Students will develop:


- Abilities to compare and contrast the different functional uses of the
present simple and present continuous;
- Abilities to work with interactive worksheets.

Students will practice:

- Their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.


- Their understanding for English grammar.
- Their ICT skills.

Students will identify:

- Strategies for better understading for English grammar.


- Ways to talk about various actions.
- Interesting interactive exercises for practicing English.

Procedure

Step 1: The lesson starts with the revision of rules for Present Simple and Present

Continuous. Students study two tables and find time expressions we use with
these two tenses.
Step 2: Duration of the activity: 5 minutes
Students watch a video and while watching it they have to answer questions,
correct the mistakes or fill the correct form of the verbs given.

Duration of the activity: 15 minutes
Step 3:
On the interactive whiteboard students complete an exercise for matching
sentences with the correct verb tense – present simple or present continuous.
This activity checks if the students have a clear idea about the form of each
tense and are able to distinguish them. If needed more explanations on the
usage of the tenses are given.

Step 4:
The lesson ends with individual task for checking each student understanding.
The students are given a worksheet to fill in where they have to decide which
tense to use.

Evaluation Teacher's observations:


Lessons which include interactive exercises and video materials are more
interesting and engaging for students. The chosen worksheets were really useful
for making clear differentiation between present simple and present continuous
tense.
Student self evaluation:
Students admit they have clear understanding when to use present simple and
when present continuous tense. They find themselves able to identify the time
expressions used with each tense.
Mutual evaluation:
The interactive revision and consolidation lesson was successful in order to
confirm students’ grammar knowledge. The video part gave the students
opportunity to exercise English in more entertaining way and they really enjoy it.
The teacher was able to check students’ understanding in various ways to be
sure that all the objectives are met.
