Carolyn Heckert, 48, had a great life with her two daughters.

The forensic evidence revealed her

murderous past and proved that she was the perpetrator of two killings. In 1989, Heckert stabbed Sarah
DeLeon, an 18-year-old girl, in Kansas City. Diana Ault, 26, was shot and killed at her home in 1994.

A Missouri real estate agent has been charged with the murder of an alleged romantic rival 27 years ago,
a cold case that authorities claim was ultimately solved when new DNA technology became available.

According to Fox 4 Kansas City, Carolyn Heckert, 48, of Smithville, Missouri, has been charged with the
killing of 18-year-old Sarah DeLeon.

DeLeon was a student at Kansas City Kansas Community College when she was killed in 1989, according
to the news station. According to People Magazine, authorities have already stated that they believe
DeLeon's death is linked to the death of another young woman years ago.

What you need to know:

1. The stabbed body of the victim was dumped near railroad tracks.
According to Fox 4, DeLeon died of a head wound as well as many stab wounds, and her body
was discovered near railroad tracks. Due to a lack of blood at the tracks, police assume her
corpse was discarded there.

DeLeon's car was discovered “with the door open and the flashers on, approximately a mile
from her home under the Interstate 70 flyover at 78th Street,” according to The Kansas City
Star.

According to the newspaper, there was no proof of a scuffle or sexual assault. Police have not
disclosed what evidence led them to Heckert, but they have stated that modern DNA technology
has helped them to make headway in the case.

2. According to reports, the murder may have been motivated by a romantic rivalry.
According to The Kansas City Star, DeLeon was slain after leaving her boyfriend's house at 1 a.m.

According to KHSB-TV, authorities believe “DeLeon was targeted because she was a romantic
rival.” Heckert and DeLeon may have dated the same man, according to the UK Daily Mail.

According to KMBC-TV, DeLeon's mother stated that "DeLeon was dating" Heckert's ex-
boyfriend.
3. Heckert has years of experience as a real estate agent and is married with children.
Heckert "worked as a longtime real estate agent until her imprisonment," according to People
Magazine.

According to KSHB-TV, neighbors reported Heckert was unapproachable and had recently up a
no trespassing notice on her property in Smithville, Missouri, near Kansas City.

Hecker is married with two daughters, according to KMBC.

4. DeLeon's death was linked to another cold case, according to police in May.
In May, authorities told People Magazine that they had an unidentified suspect in DeLeon's
death and that they believed the case was "connected to the 1994 murder of Diana Ault, 26, in
Independence, Missouri, who was shot to death in her home surrounded by her young
children."

According to KMBC-TV, Ault was shot in the chest as she headed toward her kitchen with her 4-
year-old son and infant daughter. Her house was broken into, but the only thing taken was her
husband's gun, which was used to kill Ault and was discovered in her car in a church parking lot
nearby, according to the news station. According to KCTV, the 4-year-old youngster attempted
to phone 911 but was unable to do so.

Heckert has not been charged with the crime.

According to ABC News, the anonymous DeLeon murder suspect "and an accomplice" were
involved in "previous episodes involving the harassment and intimidation of romantic rivals" in
May.

According to ABC, police have identified the unidentified suspect as Heckert, but they have
declined to speak further on the Ault case.

Ault's husband, Tim, "claimed he had an affair and moved out to live with another lady shortly
before his wife's murder," according to KMBC. Ault's husband worked at a mail facility with him.
“The postal worker had dated DeLeon's boyfriend, then he broke up with her to go back to
DeLeon,” the television station reported.

According to KMBC, Ault's mother stated that Heckert was known as Carol Coon at the time, and
that Ault's husband had an affair with Coon before reconciling with his wife.

5. DeLeon's family claims that she did not have a dangerous lifestyle.
DeLeon's mother, Gail Elieson, told KSHB-TV, "I had to help Sarah have a voice here." I had to
help her get a court date, and I couldn't say no as long as there was a chance.”

“She had no enemies,” Elieson said of DeLeon, according to the Associated Press. She was
adored by all. She didn't have a high-risk way of life.”

Before she died, Sarah's brother informed KMBC that she had been tormented and bullied.

According to Inside Edition, Ault's husband said that she was receiving harassing calls from a
lady before she died. “Ault changed her locks and phone number, even filing a harassment claim
with Independence police,” her father told KCTV.
