Christine Dacera, a Philippine flight attendant, died of natural causes.
The 23-year-old died of a "ruptured aortic
aneurysm," according to an autopsy report submitted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory on January 11, 2021. In connection, Dacera's body was found with lacerations on her legs, contusions on her feet, and bruises, indicating that the cause of death may have been accidental. Lacerations and sperm were also discovered in Dacera's genitalia, suggesting that sexual intercourse occurred before her death. Dacera's body has since been subjected to a second autopsy, but the findings are still unknown. During the investigation, according to Makati Police Station officials, archived CCTV footage of January 1, 2021 retrieved from the morning of Dacera's death shows that the woman and other suspects were out celebrating the New Year several hours before the killing. Dacera kissed a man wearing a hat, later known as Chen, briefly before entering a room at 2:52 a.m., according to CCTV footage with timestamps. Dacera can be seen talking with another man in an adjacent room on the right side of the corridor at 3:22 a.m., as two other men pass by. Three more people were seen a few meters away from one end of the corridor. Dacera can be seen at 4:13 a.m. Dela Serna can be seen carrying Dacera back to the first room at 4:13 a.m. At 9 a.m. of January 2, 2021, medico-legal officer Police Major Michael Nick Sarmiento conducted an autopsy on Dacera's body at Rizal Funeral Homes in Pasay City. The cause of death was "consistent" with what was previously reported as ruptured aortic aneurysm, according to post-mortem results published in a medico-legal study by the Southern Police District Crime Laboratory Office and later shared on social media. On January 4, 2021, Dela Serna, Galido, and Halili, according to PNP Chief Police General Debold Sinas, have already been arrested as suspects. During the inquest hearings, the Makati City Prosecutor's Office lodged a rape with murder charge. Meanwhile, investigators are also on the lookout for the remaining suspects. On January 7, 2021, the PNP acknowledged that they had not yet gathered enough information to properly investigate the circumstances surrounding Dacera's death and potential perpetrators. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) obtained bodily fluid from Dacera's remains from the second autopsy on January 10, which was performed on January 9. A DNA test has yet to be performed on the samples. On the same day, the PNP announced that they had found the eight people who were in room 2207 during the death and the events of the evening. Dacera died of natural causes, specifically aortic aneurysm, according to a medico-legal report released by the Philippine National Police on January 27, 2021, ruling out murder.
