BRIEF INTRODUCTION

The content of this lesson focuses on the different auxiliary plans which include the
fire alarm system symbols and diagram with the sample Fire Alarm System layout and the
procedure on how to layout an auxiliary plan that includes CCTV layout, the location of the
CCTV component observing proper location and based on the standards.

The fire alarm system’s main function is to track down the existence of fire
associated with combustion. It is the best way in alarming people to vacate the area and find
a safer place to stay while there is an emergency.
The use of the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) has solved crimes within the vicinity,
that is why it is considered as one of the powerful investigative tool.

FIRE ALARM SYSTEM

The fire alarm system main function is to track down the existence of fire associated
with combustion. It is the best way in alarming people in order to evacuate and find a safer
place, also to call the emergency aid/forces for safer action in the possible control of speedy
fire and smoke.

Exits must be given an attention, the required exit access must be at least
28inches wide at all points, it is separated from other areas and it must lead to the
walkway open space or public way. It must be clear and safe passage.
-Building facility should conform with the local building code and the effectivity that
when the permit was approved.
The accessibility on the entrance and exit is a must to have a safe way in case of
disaster or emergency cases.

Kinds of Fire Alarm System

1. Conventional Fire Alarm System –analog type of fire alarm system, it uses electricity
to communicate with the control panel.

2. Wireless Fire Alarm System- the use of radio communication between the control
panel and the fire detectors makes it easy for installation, with no laying cables.

CCTV

(Close - Circuit Television)

The CCTV diagram shows a strategic video camera location in order to capture and
transmit videos either the on time viewing or for recording purposes. Commercial and
residential building provide CCTVs for surveillance and security of their area.

INTERCOM CONNECTIONS
Intercom function is for intercommunication, but not that usable in a bungalow house.
Intercoms are usually use in a big building for security purpose. There is a front door
speaker added for the visitor to talk before opening, it has a paging system that includes
radio for music. Below are the sample plan of CCTV and Intercom layout.

ACTIVITIES

Activity 1.1 Drafting a CCTV Network Layout

Directions: Layout a CCTV network in the given floor plan below. Use a short size bond
paper.

Materials Needed: triangles, ruler, pencil, eraser, and short bond paper.

Procedure:
1. Copy and draw the floor plan given below use a scale of 1:100m.
2. Analyze the scope or size of the area and extent and choose what kind of camera
and where to place the cameras.
3. Determine the number and location of each camera. Connect the cameras and follow
the network system shown and lastly finalize your drawing by writing the details
needed including the dimension of the floor plan.

Guide Questions
1. What are the things that you should consider before locating each camera?
2. Where will be the location of the monitor and the switch?

Activity 1.2: Drafting a layout of a Fire Alarm System

Directions: Using the same floor plan,
draft a fire safety plan with fire alarm
system
diagram.

Materials Needed: Bond paper, pencil,

eraser, triangles, and ruler.

Procedure:
1. Copy the given floor plan above
with dimensions.
2. Identify first the door entrance and
door exits.
3. Locate each component needed
like fire extinguisher, fire sprinkler,
bell/fire alarm, and fire detector.

4. Draw and complete the plan by adding the symbols and connecting each other.
5. Write the details and finalize the drawing.

Guide Questions
1. How and what materials (Refer to the table above) are you going to use in preparing
the fire alarm system plan?
2. Where will be the exact location of each material?

REMEMBER

 Safety is the main concern of fire alarm, remember that fire alarm system
provides an abrupt warning to occupants if there is an emergency caused by
fire.
 Fire safety is the safeguard to be strictly observed to avoid and reduce the risk
of fire death, injuries and properties on fire break out.
 Proper layout of fire alarm system is draftsman main concern so focus on the
location and standards that should be followed for this concern use the table
given above.

 Learning all the details needed in drafting a plan of a CCTV and a fire alarm
system can make you choose a better material like for example what kind of
CCTV camera and for this you can consult from the inserted picture and type
of cameras that will fit to the standard of the owner.
 Application of the lesson will be an aid to carefully discuss it to family
members for the awareness and ideas on what to do in case fire breaks out.
 Proper location of CCTVs and proper planning on fire alarm system can lead
to a better and quick response in saving life and minimizing damages. The
Use table above for more details on the description and location of the
component of a fire alarm system and details on CCTV also.
