Activity: Wrap curves


In this activity you will create associative wrapped curves around a cylinder to
produce the guide path for a cam follower slot. You will then sweep a profile along
the wrapped curve to create the slot.

Open the part

Use Wrap/Unwrap to wrap a 2D spline around a cylinder

1. Choose Curve tab→Derived Curve group→Wrap/Unwrap Curve .


2. From the Type list, select Wrap.
3. Select the 2D cam path.

4. In the Face group, with Select Face active, select the outer cylindrical face of
the part.

5. In the Plane group, with Select Object active, select the datum plane.

6. Click OK.

The wrapped curve is created on the face.

Sweep a section using a wrap curve


1. Choose View tab, Layer Settings.
2. Use Layer Settings to clear the layer 2 and 22 check boxes, and select the
layer 1 check box.

3. Choose Home tab→Feature group→Swept .

4. At the top of the dialog box, click Reset .


5. Select Top Border bar→Curve Rule list→Feature Curves.
6. Select the sketch for the only section curve.

7. In the Guides (3 Maximum) group, click Select Curve.


8. Select the wrapped curve as the only guide curve.

9. In the Section Options group, from the Orientation list, select Face Normals,
and select the face of the cylinder.

10. Click OK.

11. Choose Home tab→Feature group→Subtract .

12. Select the cylinder for the Target, and the swept feature for the Tool.
13. Click OK.
14. Hide the datum plane, the wrap curve, and sketch. Then shade the part.

15. Close the part.
