Activity: Create a pattern using faces

In this activity, you will create a rectangular pattern by selecting faces. You will
define the pattern directions by selecting edges.

Create a rectangular pattern

1. Open des12_pattern_sawcover.

The part contains one slot at the top of the handle. You will add a pattern
feature to create an array slots.

2. Choose Home tab→Feature group→Pattern Face .

3. In the Pattern Definition group from the Layout list, select Linear .
4. On the Top Border bar, from the Face Rule list, select Boss or Pocket Faces.
5. Select one of the pocket faces as shown.

6. Middle-click to complete the selection.

7. Specify the Direction 1 vector as shown.

You can ignore the Alerts message. The default X and Y distance values cause
the pattern geometry to overlap.

8. For Direction 1, set the following:

o Spacing = Count and Pitch

o Count = 2
o Spacing = 15

9. Select the Use Direction 2 check box .

10. Specify Direction 2 vector as shown.

Make sure the vector is pointing in the direction as indicated below.

You can ignore the Alerts message. The default X and Y distance values cause
the pattern geometry to overlap.

11. For Direction 2, set the following:

o Spacing = Count and Pitch

o Count = 3
o Spacing = 7

12. Middle-click to complete the selection.

13. Close the part.
