Dry, it appears wispy and irregular, moist it appears fluffy with a verdantly directional texture suggestive of a mood. Strictly for dry shade applications, mood moss will take to soil, stone or wood substrates equally. Establishment will take longer (6 months or more) than other mosses but watering requirements are lessened and their mounding fluffy appearance is truly magical. Locality: Tanay, Rizal Local name: Smooth Hornwort Dialect: Tagalog Habitat: Soil Elevation: 102ft Description: The thallus is nearly flat on the upper surface. It is of dark green and somewhat lustrous color, devoid of intercellular spaces. Its capsule is commonly 6 inches to 18 inches in length. The base is surrounded by a cylindrical sheath that often flares at the mouth. Spores are yellow with a granular-papillose surface. The elaters are yellowish, often branches, and varying in size and form. The slender green capsules, when produced in large numbers, resemble grass tufts. Special notes: Looks similar to a clover leaf with a hair-like strand in the middle Economic uses: grow in large numbers as tiny weeds in the soil of gardens and cultivated fields. Locality: Tanay, Rizal Local name: Common Tamarisk moss Dialect: Tagalog Habitat: Soil Elevation: 33ft Description: The bright, yellowish-green or dark green shoots of T. tamariscinum are amongst the most distinctive of our pleurocarps. They are usually tripinnately branched, 5–25 cm long, and form loose mats. The green or red-brown stems are covered with a felt of tiny, branched filaments and very broad, heart-shaped or triangular, opaque, longitudinally ridged, acute-tipped leaves, about 1.25 mm long. The nerve is wide and almost reaches the leaf tip. Branch leaves are narrower and shorter (up to 0.5 mm). The branches are arranged more or less in one plane and become shorter towards the end of the shoot. Capsules are uncommon, and form in autumn and winter. They are large and curved, and held on a long (2–4 cm), purple-red seta. Special notes: It has sporophytes Economic uses: For bandages, cotton could be saved for making gun powder.
