1.Based on the story presented, what is / are Deolito ‘s concern/s?

Ans: Deolito’s concern is about not passing the qualifying exam that is offering to him
by his boss. Because he is poorly educated, he can’t read and write. He
brought his wife for him to answer the questions. But that can’t be happen for he is the
one who should answer that.

2.How is the case of Mang Deolito similar to the other out-of-school youths in the
country?
Ans: Mang Deolito’s case is similar to other out-of-shool youths because like him they
can’t read. They cannot write and they cannot count numbers. Their knowledge is
limited and not accepted by the society.

3.What are the probable causes of the prevalent cases of individuals unable to attend
school?
Ans: Because of poverty most students stop and can’t attend school. But there are
people that
choose to be illiterate and choose to just stay at home or to be with their friends. Some
are victims of early pregnancy. Those people that were unable to attend school have
much smaller chances to succeed.

4.How can the problem of illiteracy in the Philippines be properly addressed?

Ans: Maybe the government should build more public schools/ state universities for the
poor ones. Also, the government should offer more scholarships for those who have the
ability/skills. They can also offer some jobs for the students or for their parents.
