struggling to keep up with the fast pace of globalization. Yes, tons of opportunities are there,
especially for those who are form the province but internationally speaking, Manila is still not as
competent as global powerhouses like China’s Shanghai and Beijing, Korea’s Seoul, or Japan’s
Tokyo. What does Manila need in order to keep up with them? In order to make Manila a global
city, the following factors shall be considered: Political, Economic, and Social factors.
Political: The main objective here is to establish a new kind of governance which would
be stricter about the overall rule of politicians, in order to prevent corruption, misuse of power,
and hasty decision making. The tasks that would be needed here would be: To create a new
narrative of the government because people demand change, which can turn into a domino effect.
They shall also revise or create more laws and guidelines that can help the city’s overall growth.
The time frame would range to 10-15 years because internal cleansing of the politics would be
along-lasting task. The resources that would be needed are budget and information disbursement
Economic: The main objective here is to further improve economic stability and increase
overall economic growth, in order to engage in more international collaborations and increase
employment rate to improve the quality of lives of those who live in poverty. The different
organizations that are involved in economics should support local businesses and engage in more
research for efficiency of the trading system. Everything should be regulated in order to
maximize profit while still staying on ethical ways. The process may take 10-15 years,
considering the current state of the city. The process needs newer technology, labor force and
budget in order to continue supporting partnerships between local and international partners.
Social: The main objective here is to establish a better social narrative and environment,
where people with different cultures can interact with each other without discrimination, to be
able to achieve inclusive communities where the social structure is equal and open to more
opportunities. Its main job is to provide feedback for the government, create engagement
programs for the next generation and also provide good environments for everyone. This process
could be hard because of the Filipino mindset so it may take 18-20 years. For this to work, more
