I. Instructions: Read the problem very carefully and conduct a 5-step hypothesis-testing
procedure using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation (Pearson’s r).
1. Four young children were monitored closely over a period of several weeks to measure how
much they watched violent television programs and their amount of violent behavior toward their
playmates. The results were as follows:
Calculate the r using the 5-step hypothesis-testing procedure tested at a 0.05 significance level.
H1: The more children watch violent TV shows, the more they are
aggressive toward their playmates
Step 4: Calculate the r and determine where it falls in the comparison distribution (Use
the formula provided in the presentation) (2 points)
-.60 .60
Step 4: Calculate the r (Use the formula provided in the presentation) (2 points)
r = 0.9234
Step 5: Decision and Interpretation (Please check (/) your answer and use the table in the
presentation provided to determine the strength of correlation. If no significant
correlation was revealed, please refrain from reporting the strength) (2 points).
