Watch is an
action group
of the South Side Community
Council that began its work to re-
move and prevent graffiti on the
South Side 4 years ago.
Many have observed that the
South Side is no longer being over-
taken by graffiti and does not re-
flect a neighborhood in decline. The
success of Graffiti Watch can be
attributed to property owners and
a dedicated group of community
volunteers. These volunteers moni-
tor and report to 911 graffiti activ-
ity on their buildings and streets,
participate in graffiti paint-outs,

morning of Saturday, November 6,
2010, cleaning up what appeared
to have been a favorite hangout for
the homeless.
This site is located between Giant
Eagle and the Beltex Company at
the end of South 22nd.

activities to buy paint and sup-
plies.
Preventing and removing graffiti
on the South Side requires a never
ending effort. We need to continu-
ally recruit new volunteers to keep
the effort going.

The back of the Beltex building
has been a favorite canvas for
graffiti vandals, so conse-
quently, that area is very famil-
iar to Graffiti Watch members.
"We have been down there painting
over graffiti for several years and
have never seen trash like this" said

a spot to beautify the neighbor-
hood.

band and four other dedicated
South Side residents, spent just
two hours collecting over 20 bags of
trash, four tires, and a very large
pile of cardboard.
"It's amazing how much of a differ-
ence just a few people can make in
such a short period of time".
