The Present Simple
1. Grammar: we use the present simple to talk about daily
routines and habits

2. Note: add “s” , “es” or “ies” to the verbs when the person
you are talking about is: he, she, it.

3. Gramatical Rules:

a. Rule #1: If the verb ends in: - o – x - ch – sh – , add /es/,if the verb going
with 3rd subject pronoun.
He – She- It
Example:

GO = IR

• My mother always goes to the supermarket at eight o’clock.

• They always go to the supermarket at eight o’clock.

FIX = ARREGLAR

• My father often fixes his car every day.

• We often fix a car every day.

WATCH = OBSERVAR
/MIRAR

• Saul usually watches TV at half past seven.

• They usually watch TV at half past seven.

WASH = LAVAR

• Kristina often washes her hands every day.

• You often wash your hands every day.

b. Rule #2: If the verb ends in “y” preceded by a consonant, delete “y” and
change by a vowel “i”, add /es/
Example: study

STUDY= ESTUDIAR

• Ariana always studies her lessons every afternoon.

• They always study their lessons every afternoon.
 c. Rule #3: If the verb ends in “y”, preceded by a vowel, only add /s/
Example: play /enjoy / stay / buy

PLAY= JUGAR

• Iker sometimes plays football at half past four.

• I sometimes play football at half past four.

d. Rule #4:Irregular verbs: change all the word.

example: have has

HAVE= TENER

• Zahory always has breakfast at 8 o’clock.

• You always have breakfast at 8 o´clock
