Hinge Reference Line
The hinge reference line is an imaginary line, running parallel with the
upper frame rebate. The distance between the hinge reference line and Hinge reference

The hinge reference line is independent from the hinge type and

manufacturer. The distance of the hinge reference line of the upper door
hinge and the door rebate is always 241±1 mm. The distance between
the upper and lower door hinge depends on the door panel height. For For dimension
If the door panel is fitted with 3 hinges, the distance between the upper
Door Hinges
and centre door hinge reference line is 370 mm.
For doors wider than 1000 mm, the formula for calculating the • Location (i.e. domestic or public buildings)
increase of the door mass (door weight) must be used: • Material of the door panel
Calculation: • Opening frequency of the door
a) Door height divided by door width = X • Door dimensions (extra width)
b) Factor 2 minus X = increase of door mass % • Opening direction of the door (i.e. doors opening
Example: outwards)
Door height 2000 mm • Arrangement and installation of the door hinges
Door width 1100 mm • Door buffers
a) 2000 mm/1100 mm = 1.82 • Door closers
b) 2 - 1.82 = 0.18
= increase of the door mass by 18% Therefore when selecting a door hinge, especially for public buildings,
a weight buffer should always be considered.
If however a third hinge is fitted at a height of exactly 370 mm below
the upper hinge reference line, the maximum door weight specified
increases by 30% approx.

Retractable Seal
Release
Retractable door seals are available with a release mechanism which can be released on the hinge side or on the lock side. The sealing profile 5
is raised and lowered without dragging along the floor, which prolongs it’s service life considerably.
Areas of Application
Door Seals
• Protection against cold, draft and vermin
• Reduces light leakage
• Sound insulation
• Smoke control
• Fire resistance
• Reduces the energy consumption of air conditioning systems (see following examples)

The area in which the door is applied is mainly governed by the sealing profile material (PVC or silicone). High quality, self-extinguishing silicone
seals are used for fire resistant and smoke control doors.
Fixing Methods
Retractable door seals can be morticed, semi-morticed or surface mounted depending on the model and area of application.
Perimeter seals are designed to seal gaps along the vertical door jambs and head. Some models have a height adjustable seal.
Door Sets
Some perimeter and rebate seals are available packed in sets to suit typical door types. These are:
• Single Door Set = 1 x 1000 mm and 2 x 2100 mm lengths.
• Double Door Set = 3 x 2100 mm lengths.
• Long Single Door Set = 1 x 1000 mm and 2 x 2750 mm lengths.
• Long Double Door Set = 1 x 2000 mm and 2 x 2750 mm lengths.

Rebate Seals
Rebate Seals are mounted in the groove of the frame or door.
Depending on the type, the bottom part of the seal is inserted directly

into the groove (fig. 1) or the seal must be fitted with a housing (fig. 2).

Where the floor is rough or on a slope within the opening range of the
door, the stroke of the holder has to be selected so that the plug can
be pressed to the floor at any opening angle. On even floors, a stroke
of 30 - 40 mm is sufficient. A door can also be held open by a door
stop with a hook, magnetic or clamping mechanism. These door
holders are fixed to the wall or to the floor. The angle, at which the door
2/3
is held, is therefore pre-determined.

Best position of door stops
The overhead stops limit the door opening angle. When a hold-open
device is installed, the door stops at the set opening angle. The hold-
open device is released by simply pushing the door leaf towards the
closing direction.
In addition to limiting the door opening angle, an overhead holder
also holds the door open at a specified angle.
