OVERVIEW OF THE SUBJECT

In the preparation for the subject course calculus a student needs not only
technical skill but also a clear understanding of concepts. Indeed, conceptual
understanding and technical skill go hand in hand. A student also needs to gain an
appreciation for the power and utility of mathematics in modeling the real world. Every
feature of this module is devoted to fostering these goals.
In this module each exercise set begins with the question in mind “What I need to
Know”, which encourage students to work with basic concepts and to use mathematical
vocabulary appropriately. Next is by giving them a Specified Objectives to redirect them
on the learnings that the students should attain. Then by assessing on what students have,
this module provides “What I know” sections and a follow up “Warm – up Activity” to
make them more interested towards the topic.
In assessing students progress in each lesson, module also provides sections of
“What I have learned”, “What I can do”, “What more” and the like.
At the end of the course, the students must be able to apply concepts and solve
problems involving conic sections, systems of nonlinear equations, series and
mathematical induction, circular and trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities,
and polar coordinate system.
