“My difficulties and how I overcome them in learning English”

1. Vocabulary
There are so many words with multiple meanings. The way that I do to increase my
vocabulary is to learn a new song especially in English and to read books in English. If I
found a new word, my dictionary will help to give the meaning. I prefer to use Merriam
Webster dictionary than English-Indonesia dictionary. Why? Because knowing the meaning
in English, it makes me understand more about English. Sometimes there is a new word and I
use my English-Indonesia dictionary to know the meaning in Bahasa first.

2. Pronunciation
There are differences between the written and the spoken word. In Bahasa, we say the word
that we write. But in English, they aren’t. So it’s better to keep hearing the native English
speaker who pronounces the word. I can use a dictionary too. Because there is a menu to say
or to speak the word correctly. I try to develop my speaking skills every day. I like to read
my book by telling the word one by one. It's so helpful to increase my pronunciation.

3. Confidence
As Asian I always think what’s other thinking of me. There is time when I feel shame and
better to be quiet in a crowd. My English is bad, so I have to be silent. But, praise God in
2020 I joined to English for Christian. This is my first group to practice my speaking skills
with others. They are so welcome. But, because of my business at school I can’t join this
group again. So, my daily practice is to sing and to read something in English and keep using
this language. Thanks God, I have English lesson in my postgraduate class. I meet my
humble lecturer and never give up friends.
