DEMONSTRATION LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE V

NOVEMBER 28, 2017

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
 A. identifies the members of the solar system,
  B. describes each members of the solar system, and
  C. illustrates the order of the planets from the sun.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: The Solar System
Materials: video clips, PowerPoint, charts, activity sheets, markers, books, laptop and
projector
 Reference: Science V pp 248 – 255

Strategy: Discovery Learning, Cooperative Learning, Learning Stations, Games

Values: appreciation and cooperation

III. PROCEDURE
 A. Preliminary Activities
1. Daily Routine
Cleaning the classroom
Prayer
Checking of attendance
2. Drill (weather)
teacher says: let’s sing the “weather song”
Ask: 1. What are the safety/precautionary measures you should follow before,
during, and after a typhoon?
2. Why are public storm signals raised in places that might be affected by
a typhoon?
2.Review
Directions: Call on students and ask them to paste the data needed on the
chart.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation
Teacher says: Let’s play “forming a puzzle”. You will be group into three. The first
group to finish will receive a reward.

Example of image formed:

2. Presentation (ICT Integration)

Teacher says: Watch a short video clip regarding the solar system. Listen carefully
and take down notes while watching.

3. Discussion
A. Engagement Activities (Students)
Teacher says: You will go to your respective group and you will do some
research regarding “the solar system”. There are learning resource materials (e.g.
encyclopedia, laptops with internet connection) provided on each learning station.
Present your work using graphic organizer.

B. Teacher’s follow up discussion

Teacher will present through a PowerPoint.
 Solar System is known as the Sun’s family. It includes the planets and their
moons, and asteroids. Which travel around the sun in definite paths called orbit.
 The Sun is the start at the center of the Solar System. It produces large amount
of radiant energy.
 The planets are heavenly bodies that revolves around the Sun. They reflect
lights coming from the sun.
 Asteroids are fragments of matter similar to planetary matter that orbit between
Mars and Jupiter.
 A satellite also known as moon is a body that revolves around large primary
body, like a planet.
 Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are called the inner planets. These planets are
relatively close to the Sun and are solid, rock-like bodies. The inner planets are
also called “the Terrestrial planets”.
 The outer planets- Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are mostly gaseous.
And, are also called “the Jovian planets”.
 Mercury is the smallest and closest planet to the sun, which has the shortest
orbit in the solar system.
 Venus is the hottest planet due to atmosphere of carbon dioxide and extensive
lava flows. It has the same size as the Earth but spins the other way.
 Earth is our home planet. It has land and water, which can sustain life.
 Mars is rocky and red planet. Its mountains are the highest in the solar system.
 Jupiter is the biggest planet. It has the fastest spin and it has the biggest moon.
 Saturn is a gas giant planet. It has rings made of ice. It’s biggest moon is called
Titan.
 Uranus is an ice giant. It is the coldest planet in the solar system. It has rings
made of dust.
 Neptune is also an ice giant. It is the farthest planet from the sun. It has many
storms.
4. Application
Through a game, the learners will be divided into 2 groups.
1st group will do the board activity.
2nd group will illustrate the Solar System using their body.

IV. EVALUATION
