Introduction

Background of the study

Sultan Kudarat was once a part of the former empire province of Cotabato and is

located in the southwestern part of the island of Mindanao. Hundreds of first class caves

are actually found in this province. The province is also the top producer of coffee in the

Philippines. (Philippine.travel, 2018). There are also lots of products that the province of

Sultan Kudarat could offer and open many opportunities for the residents.

New Emerging Businesses in the province of Sultan Kudarat play’s a big rule in

molding and helping the industry of Sultan Kudarat. In the midst of the current COVID-

19 pandemic, global markets are severely disrupted. Businesses are forced to explore

innovative solutions to overcome the growing negative implications of this

unprecedented crisis. (PwC Philippines, 2020). The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has

shocked global, regional, and national economies. People’s lives and economic

activities have been strictly limited to safeguard health and control the spread of the

virus. They face a lack of working capital, making it difficult to continue operating.

Prolonged containment of COVID-19 increases the risk of business failure and

bankruptcy. In particular, micro, small, and medium-sized firms are at great risk due to

abrupt supply chain disruptions and tightened financial conditions.(Asian Development

Bank 2020).
  However, in times of crisis, new opportunities emerge. According to the World

Economic Forum, Covid-19 has also led to an increase in entrepreneurial activity

around the world. New ideas and innovations have emerged. Many entrepreneurs and

start-ups have grabbed the opportunity to launch new businesses.

pandemic, opens new opportunity for the residents of Sultan Kudarat. Such us, Milk tea

house, fast food chains, restaurants, grocery stores and sari-sari stores. Were foods

became their main products and services that they offer.

As dine-in services were either banned or limited due to quarantine restrictions, milk tea

business, fast-food chain and restaurants has been surviving thanks to online delivery services.

(Priam Nepomuceno, 2020). In addition to these, some places in Sultan Kudarat, develop their

local area as a tourist spot destination. When the coronavirus pandemic struck, Datu Nasrullah

Ibrahim Mama, commander of the BIAF 1st Brigade, started developing the Stallion Farm

Known as Camp Gadzanfar into an off-the-beaten-path tourism spot that offers a fascinating

view of the sprawling lowlands of Isulan, the provincial capital of Sultan Kudarat. (Bong S.

Sarmiento, 2021).

An emerging industry refers to companies that are formed around a new product

or idea that is in the early stages of development. (Will Kenton, 2020). Emerging

businesses do not only experience positive growth. In fact, businesses have emerged

from bankruptcy and others have needed to fight off hostile takeovers or undergo

recapitalization. (Steven Weigler, 2014). But during the covid-19 pandemic, new

emerging businesses in Sultan Kudarat arise, from a small business to medium and

large businesses
 The main purpose of this study is to determine the new emerging businesses in

Sultan Kudarat during the covid-19 pandemic and to know the situation of business

owners during the covid-19 pandemic.

Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to determine the level of The Socio-economic Impacts of

Ccovid-19 pandemic on New Emerging Businesses in Sultan Kudarat. Specifically, the

study aims to answer the following questions.

1. To determine the New Emerging businesses in Sultan Kudarat during covid-19

pandemic in terms of?

1.1 types of business

1.2 size of business

1.3 business owners

2. To identify the positive socio-economic impacts of covid-19 pandemic on New

Emerging Businesses in Sultan Kudarat in terms of?

2.1 financial statuses

2.2 health status

2.3 business status

2.4 employment situations

3. To identify the negative socio-economic impacts of covid-19 pandemic on New

Emerging Businesses in Sultan Kudarat in terms of?

3.1 financial statuses

3.2 health status

3.3 business status

3.4 employment situation

Significance of the Study

The result of the study will be of great benefits to the following:

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The study will cover the determination of the Socio-economic impacts of Covid-

19 pandemic on selected tourist spot in Sultan Kudarat. The primary subjects of this

research study will consist of the selected tourist spot in Sultan Kudarat. The

respondents will be limited only to the owner of the selected tourist spots in Sultan

Kudarat.

This study was conducted during the S.Y. 2021-2022.

This chapter presents the researcher’s design, source of data, sampling

techniques, and procedures to attain the objectives of the research.

Research Design

The utilize the quantitative descriptive research design to determine and analyze

the socio-economic impacts of Covid-19 pandemic on selected tourist spot in Sultan

Kudarat.

Respondent of the Study

 The respondents of the study were the owner of the selected tourist spot in

Sultan Kudarat.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher submitted a letter to the University President duly noted by the

adviser, Department Chair, and College Dean which sought permission to conduct the

study within the area. Along with the letter was the sample survey questioner which

serve us a reference for the University President.

After the approval of the letter, the researcher conduct the survey. The survey

questionnaires were distributed to the respondent of the study.

Before hand, these were checked and approved by the research adviser the

questionnaire was answered by the respondents. The researcher explained to the

respondent the statement and purpose of the study based on the research objectives.

The validity of the questionnaire was limited on A.Y. 2021-2022.

Data Gathering Instruments

Survey questionnaires were the main instrument used in gathering the

information and the data needed. The questionnaire consists of different sets of

indicators in each parameter that was being asked to the respondents. Firstly, to

determine the level of the Socio-economic Impact of Covid-19 pandemic on selected

Tourist spot in Sultan Kudarat. Secondly, to determine the selected tourist spot in Sultan

Kudarat.

The following rating scale was used by the respondents in rating the statements

in the questionnaire:

The researcher utilize the mean and standard deviation as statistics to describe
