1.Why did you choose the topic?

The researchers chose the topic since it covers the area of their interests . Given the fact that their topic is
in the field of their interests, it keeps the researchers to be determined and motivated to achieve the goal of
the study.
2. What is the objective or purpose of the study?
The purpose of this correlational research is to test the relationship between the time spent in daydreaming
and the academic performance of Grade 11 students in Theresian School of Cavite.
Specific Problem:
1. Are the selected Grade 11 students at Theresian School of Cavite have been identified as
daydreamers?

performance of the selected Grade 11 students in Theresian School of Cavite?

3.What does correlation means?

The word correlation simply means a relationship, connection or interrelations among things or variables.
4.Why is does it states "the selected" Grade 11 students?
Simply because the researchers will get the sample population which means that not all grade 11 students
will be the participants of their study.
5.What do you mean by daydreaming?
Daydreaming is defined as a series of pleasant or desired visions which is usually a wishful creation of
one's imagination, an execution of intended mental tasks having undirected ideas while in a state of
consciousness.
6.How about the academic performance? What does it mean?
It is the Grade Average of the students on how they carry out their education.
7.Why did you conduct this research?
The researchers conduct this study in order to help the institution and people around the world to gain
knowledge

8. What are the HYPOTHESIS?

The null hypothesis states that there is no significant relationship between the time spent in daydreaming
and the academic performance of selected Grade 11 students in Theresian School of Cavite while the
alternative hypothesis states that there is a significant relationship between the time spent in daydreaming
and the academic performance of the same participants coming from the same institution.
9. What is the statement of the problem?
The purpose of this correlational research is to test the relationship between the time spent in daydreaming
and the academic performance of Grade 11 students in Theresian School of Cavite.

10.What does the double-headed arrow means?

The double-headed arrows signifies the possible relationships between the two variables.
11. What is or are your SCOPE?
This study is to focus on the relation between the daydreaming of students and their academic
performance by determining the time spent in daydreaming and their average grades. It covers the
selected Grade 11 students from Theresian School of Cavite this school year 2020-2021. The study will be
limited to the time that students’ spend on daydreaming in 24 hours and their average grades.

12. What is or are your DELIMITATION?

The researchers will be excluding the particular activities, objects and thoughts of the students while they
are in the state of daydreaming.

7.What is the result of TUS’s study?

8. What is the outcome of Lipa’s study?

1.What type of research did you use?

The researchers used a quantitative research.
Why did you use a quantitative type of research?
The quantitative research consists of two goals it’s either to test the differences or the relationships
between the the variables. The researchers used the quantitative type of research because it aims to test
the correlation between the variables.
2. Why research design did you use design?
The researchers used a correlational research design.
Why did you use correlational design? Simply because the study aims to determine if there is a correlation
between the two variables that’s why correlational research design were utilized.
3.What is the total population of Grade 11 students in Theresian School of Cavite?
There’s a total of 411 active Grade 11 students in Theresian School of Cavite.
4. How many students are included in your sample population?
There are 203 selected Grade 11 students in Theresian School of Cavite that are included in the sample
population.
5.What sampling technique did you use in selecting the participants of your study?
The researchers used the simple random sampling technique.
Why? The researchers used the simple random sampling since it gives an equal chance to every member
of the whole population.

6.What did you use upon getting the sample size?

The researchers used the Slovin’s Formula in getting the sample size.
7.Why did you use the Slovin's Formula?
The Slovin’s formula is used to calculate an appropriate sample size from the given population and gives
the researchers an idea on how big the sample size should be in order to get an accurate results.

8.What research instrument did you use in gathering the data?

The researchers will use a survey questionnaire.
8.Why did you use the survey questionnaire?
The researchers will use the survey questionnaire in order to gather information from the respondents that
provides quick and efficient way of getting large information from a large number of participants.

9.What do you mean by closed ended questionnaire?

Close-ended questionnaire are set of questions that can only be answered by selecting from a limited
number of options.
Is it quantifiable? Yes, closed-ended questionnaire is designed to gather quantifiable data.
Can you explain why did you chose this type of questionnaire?
The researchers used this type of questionnaire because they’re conducting a qualitative research which
also requires a quantifiable data.
10.How many parts does your survey questionnaire consists?
The survey questionnaire consists of four parts.
11.What is the content of Part 1?
The part 1 of the survey questionnaires will consist of the respondent’s demographic profile such as the
name, age and gender.
12.What is the content of Part 2?
The part of the survey questionnaire will consist of the tool to determine the participants’ time spent in
daydreaming.
13.Why did you adapt the the MDS-16?
The researchers will adopt the 16-item Maladaptive Daydreaming Scale in order to determine if the
participant is a daydreamer or not.
14.How does MDS-16 works?
The instruction states that please refer to your current daydreaming habits while addressing the following
questions. Select the alternative that best describes your situation: The number “0” indicates that there is
no distress at all, while the number “10” up to “100” indicates the intensity of significant distress that occurs.
For example, item #2 was rephrased as: “I felt the need or urge to continue a daydream that was
interrupted by a real-world event at a later point”. Scores for each item are averaged for an overall daily
score. The daily score is calculated by averaging the scores for each item. On the trait variant of the MDS-
16, a cutoff of 40% was found to better differentiate those with clinical level maladaptive daydreaming from
non-maladaptive daydreamers.

15.In what aspects do MDS-16 rate?

According to Health line, it rates the content and quality (detail) of dreams, a person’s ability to control their
dreams and compulsion to dream, the amount of distress caused by daydreaming, a person’s perceived
benefits of daydreaming and how much daydreaming interferes with a person’s ability to carry out their
daily activities.

16.What is the cut off score of MDS-16 ?

The cut off score of MDS-16 is 40.
17.How will you know if a participant is a daydreamer or not?
A participant will be considered as a daydreamer if the mean average of his or her answers is 40 and
above while a non daydreamer can be determined if his or her answers’ mean average is 40 and below.
18.What type of likert scale is the MDS-16?
16-item Maladaptive Daydreaming Scale is an 11-point likert scale.
19.How many questions do MDS-16 have?
It contains 16 questions.
20.How can I make sure that that the information coming from that research instrument is credible?
The 16-item Maladaptive Daydreaming Scale has a test retest reliability of 0.92 and a validity of 0.58.
21.So? What about its reliability and validity?
According to the information that have been disseminated to the researchers, once the reliability is greater
than 0.7 and the validity is greater than 0.5, not just research instrument but also the information gathered
using it becomes credible.
22.What is the scoring of MDS-16?
The number “0” indicates that there is no distress at all, while the number “10” up to “100” indicates the
intensity of significant distress that occurs. On the trait variant of the MDS-16, a cutoff of 40% was found to
better differentiate those with clinical level maladaptive daydreaming from non-maladaptive daydreamers.
23.The scores coming from MDS-16, is it daily or for a year?
The scores of MDS-16 is averaged daily.
24. What is the content of Part 3?
The survey questionnaire’s part 3 consists of the tool that can be used to determine the participants’ time
spent in daydreaming.
25.What is the content of part 4?
The part 4 of the survey questionnaires consist of the tool that can provide the average grades of the
selected Grade 11 students in Theresian School of Cavite.
26.DATA GATHERING PROCEDURES
27.What statistical treatment did you use?
The researchers will use the Pearson’s r as a statistical treatment.
