 Realized that Dr. Jose Rizal is a good model of a person with self-
discipline.
 Suggest ways of counteracting feelings and hopefulness and pessimism
among Filipino citizens.
 Trace development of Rizal Nationalism and explain why patriotism
hinders the Philippine progress.
 Explain why nynergy can help bring about the Philippines social and
economic progress.
 Enumerate means by which they could develop their leadership potentials.

LESSON 1

Self Discipline: A Call for our Lives

The call of our times is self-discipline and the best way to respond to
it is to start with our selves. All Filipinos must know the real meaning of
discipline and proper way to enforce it . It cannot be denied that one of the
causes of the socio economic, political, and moral upheavals that we
encounter is not knowing what discipline is. The knowledge of discipline is
therefore one of the keys to progress and positive changes in our society.
ACTIVITY:

 Define discipline in your own point of view, explain and expand your
answer by giving some examples.
 Trace and explain the root cause of lack of discipline among Filipinos.
 Enumerate at least 5 results of lack of discipline among Filipinos and give
possible solution on it.
 Give examples of Dr. Jose Rizal’s self Discipline.

LESSON 2

Faith in God and the Fate of Nation

The restoration of hope and trust in God and our pride in being a
Filipinos could cure the ills of our society and redirect our nations fate. The
feeling of helplessness and pessimism needs to be overcome. A
reawakening of faith in God will definitely restore the Filipinos hope and
optimism and will move them to take positive actions.

ACTIVITY:

 Diffrentiate the term “ faith ‘ and “ Fate”

 Explain how faith in God’s will could help develop hope and optimism
among Filipinos.
 Suggest specific activities or programs that could restore the Filpinos pride,
that could counteract feelings of hopefulness and pessimism among young
and old Filipino Citizens.

LESSON 3

Love of Country: A Must for Progress

Filipinos “ colonial mentality” or love for anything imported

products, fashion, movies, even franchised food chains and coffee shops are
very noticeable among Filipinos. Foreign fads are blindly followed.
Promoting patriotism among Filipino citizen is a must if we want to see
social and economic progress in our country. We need to get every
Filipino think and seriously care about the Philippines. Every citizen of
 our country must be able to identify her or his personal interest with the
welfare and long term development of our motherland.

ACTIVITY:

 Give five definition of the term “ Patriotism” and “ Nationalism “

 Trace the influences that led to the development of Dr. Jose Rizal’s
nationalism.
 Give some importance of nationalism and enumerate ways by which we
could develop patriotism.

LESSON 4

Leadership: A must for building a nation and having a mission and

vision

Philippine history books tell us that our history of countless,

unfinished revolutions and change of leaders. Leaders of each generation
have sacrifices themselves in historic struggles for kalayaan, karapatang
pantao, katarungan, lubos na kasarinlan, and kaginhawaang pangkalahatan,
but it seems that their sacrifices have been in vain. After innumerable
victims, martyrs, heroes and heroines, and changes of leadership, we are
now confronted by a nation a nation that is in the brink of despair and the
meagre results we have secured. Social inequality is widening, economic
development is too slow, and injustice and violation of human rights occur
with unacceptable frequency.

ACTIVITY:

 Define leadership using your own point of view and enumerate qualities of
a good leader.
 What does Dr. Jose Rizal qualities that influences as to become a good
leader?
 Suggest some means by which we could develop our leadership potentials.
How could you help achieve true freedom and progress in our country?
 LESSON 5
HAVING A MISSION AND VISION IN LIFE

Chaotic situations in one’s personal life, in families, in the

neighbourhood, and in the government usually happen because of lack of
planning and direction and because of not having a clear picture of where
they want to go and of what they want to attain. The paths that an individual
chooses can affect her or his life forever. In other words, we need to be clear
about what we want to accomplish as the goal of our lifetime.
This is where proper orientation comes inand where a good value
system fits in. With positive values, we seek only the good things through
genuine service to others, in ways that use our talents and enable us to make
a positive difference, not only in our personal life but also in the lives of the
people we touch.
Mission, vision, objective, goals, and direction are very important. If
you think beyond the present and decide in what direction you want your life
to go, it is more than likely that each step you take will get you closer to
what you want to attain. Our vision and mission will come back to our
minds again and again, even to haunt us when things go wrong due to
having neglected them. Indeed, the crises in our personal and national lives
remind us of how relevant they are. Mission, vision, and direction are
features of both good personal and good national governance.

ACTIVITY

1. Define the terms mission, vision, objectives and goals.

2. Try to envision yourself 20 years from now. What do you want to be?
What are you good at? What are your interest? With this questions in mind,
write your vision, mission, goals, and objectives in life.
3. Did Dr. Jose Rizal have a mission and vision in life? Support your
answer. What were the results of his having or not having a mission and
vision in life?
4. Is it possible to have fulfilment, success, and happiness in life? Explain
your answer.
5. Enumerate the advantage of having a personal mission and vision in life
to you as an individual, as a family member, and as a Filipino citizen.
