Group Assignment : Instructions and Grading Schemes

This group assignment is designed to assess students’ skill on;


• Ability to work collaboratively in a group to conduct self-directed investigation towards
Operations Management related topics/ concepts
• Ability to recognize and articulate application of Operations Management related topics/
concepts in actual business scenario
• Ability to produce a report summarizing findings as well as documenting report’s content in a
video, creatively

Important dates and submission


Please note that there are several due dates associated with this group assignment. Failure to comply
may result to point deductions. No late submission, please.

Overview of this Group Assignment


• Students are expected to work in a group setting to prepare and submit a report as well as a
presentation video that carries 30% of the total module evaluation
• In brief, students are required to;
1. Conduct further investigation on an assigned topic independently
2. Prepare a report documenting findings as well as answers to questions listed in the
marking scheme
3. Creatively and effectively produces a presentation video that summarizes content of the
report
• Please refer to the attached marking schemed for details on evaluation criterion and score
allocation

Group Formation and Group Blog creation on BB


• Please do the following to form your group prior to the specified due date
1. Form group with exactly membership of 4 persons. Approval is required for membership
any amendment
2. Nominate a group leader
3. Group leader to request all group members to enroll themselves onto the corresponding
“Group” via “Sign-Up Sheet” at Blackboard under Group Tab. Make sure your members
select (click) the correct group number.
4. Group leader to create a new post entitle “Group Information” and post the following
under “Group Blog”; (see picture below)
 Group number and assigned topic number
 Details of group members – ID, section, program
 State who is the group leader – Phone number and email

Assignment of topic to groups


• Each group will be randomly assigned 1 topic by the lecturer
• These topics are selected from textbook; Operations Management - Stevenson - 9th edition
• You may appeal this decision to the lecturer in-person prior to a specified due date
1. Appeal must be accompanied by valid reasons
2. Upon considering your reasons, the lecturer would make the final verdict

Check Point meeting


• Objective of Check Point Meeting is to ensure
1. Students’ progress does not derailed from Marking Scheme requirements
2. Availability of time and opportunity to seek consultation and feedback from the lecturer
• Please do the following to fulfill this Check Point Meeting requirements
1. Check your group’s Check Point meeting slot at BlackBoard announcement
2. At least 2 group members attending the meeting slot “on time”
3. Bring along printed copies of the following
 All marking scheme documents
 Your draft (eg; report/ ppt slides)
 Your laptop (if necessary)
4. Prepare questions to ask lecturer and be ready to answer questions from lecturer
 Asking the lecturer to read your entire report to highlight errors and recommend
improvements is “not” the framework of this meeting. Students explaining “why
and what has been done then ask specific questions” is the preferred interaction
approach of this meeting
• If your group is deemed “late”, your assigned meeting slot will be canceled. Reschedule is sole
depends on the lecturer’s availability

Submission and guide for GA Report


• This report carries 20% of the total course evaluation
• Please do the following to fulfill this requirement prior to the specified due date;
1. Prepare a report in accordance to the Marking Scheme

 Go to “Content”  “Group Assignment”  “GReport”
 Click on the “submission” link
 Click on “Browse my computer” to attach
 your report (MsWord, only 1 file)
 Then click “Submit”
 Please ensure that you do not write any “Comment” or “Text
Submission”
 Please ensure your report is MS Word file with proper file name

3. Notes on submission;
 Submission of hard copy of the report is not required, unless specified otherwise
 Submission of pdf file type is not permitted, unless instructed otherwise
 Responsibility of timely submission is the responsibility of the group leader,
however, any member could perform submission on behalf of the entire group
 You may resubmit any time prior to the due date, only the latest submission will
be graded
 Upon submission, please use Blackboard to verify that you have submitted the
correct version of your work

Originality report and Plagiarism


 Blackboard / TurnItIn would generate an Originality/ SafeAssign report based on your submission.
However, this report will only be generated after due date.
 Hence, no additional actions are required from students with regard to generation of this report.
Students just need to submit report prior to due date.
 Cases with substantial evidence of plagiarism, will be notified and be referred to Exam Center /
HOP for investigation.
 Students are expected to produce independent work and practice referencing to original sources,
if applies.

Referencing system
 In preparing your report, if third party’s material were referred, these sources shall be cited in
accordance to the guidelines prescribed by the Harvard referencing
 Copy of Harvard referencing manual is posted on Blackboard
 Please refer to marking scheme for details and requirement on referencing system

Peer Evaluation
 Peer evaluation is designed to ensure active participation and valuation of individual contribution
by the group leader
 Hence, group leader is required and has the sole discretion, to assigned score to each
member.
 Peer evaluation will have direct impact on individual mark for this group assignment. For
example;
o If group assignment score = 80% and your peer evaluation score = 40%, hence your
individual score = 80*0.4 = 32 marks
o If group assignment score = 80% and your peer evaluation score = 80%, hence your
individual score = 80*0.8 = 64 marks
o If group assignment score = 80% and your peer evaluation score = 100%, hence your
individual score = 80*1 = 80 marks

Submission and guide for Presentation Video


• Your video presentation carries 10% of the total course evaluation
• Requirements on Presentation video
1. Your video must be documented in a “video file” format, which you can upload and
submit via BlackBoard. Submission of an “url” link that link to a server (eg Youtube,
Kaltura) is not acceptable. See marking scheme for details on formatting requirements.

2. Students are expected to secure all tools (eg; projector, VGA cable, video recorder,
laptop, audio editing program) necessary for recording
3. If your video file is large (> 100 mb), you are advised to identify a video/ audio editing
software to reduce the file size. Large file may take a very long time to be uploaded on
BB. Pls ensure that audio is loud and clear, while wording on the projected slide can be
read with ease.
