Lesson 3 : Watch the video. Based on the video, what is the importance of values in
education in today’s society?

Virtuous values are good practices that must be present in every person so that all
their actions do not deviate from the desired social norms in society. These pure values can
give birth to superior human beings and utopia in order to realize the national mission of the
country. In line with that, the subjects of Moral Education and Islamic Education have been
taught in schools to form a younger generation who always practice virtuous values in their
lives. In addition, parents also need to play an important role in ensuring the existence of noble
values in their children.

Pure values are important in life to produce human beings with noble morals. Indeed,
noble morals are highly demanded from the point of view of our culture, civilization and religion.
The practice of pure values can form a balanced human being in terms of physical, emotional,
spiritual and intellectual. Now, the number of students in our country is 5 million people, if not
inculcated with noble values since school then they will be a generation that will be detrimental
to the country in the future. This is because, pure values will reflect the harmonious atmosphere
of life in Malaysia.

Being positive as well as have qualities, leadership is essential to make a country developed.
However there are various situations that worry everyone about the development of today’s
youth. This group if left alone 2 without proper guidance and education by the education system
as well as from families, they will be more likely to get caught up in less activities healthy
activities such as skipping school, hanging out, free association, drug addiction and also a
crime. This phenomenon occurs due to lack of understanding and appreciation students against
good values or referred to as pure values. (Norasmah Hj. Othman, 1996)

According to Tamby Subahan (1991), before students can appreciate nature around
and further want to preserve and survive the environment, students need to understand the
facts or knowledge about the role and contribution the environment in ensuring the well -being
of life. Likewise before students accept and practice the core values of the feeling of love,
affection deep and abiding affection born of a heart willing to something, they need to
understand those values. These values can be measured directly or made inference from the
concepts of beliefs, attitudes and behaviors.

In addition, the need for pure values in life is to form a society that adheres to religious
teachings. Obedience to religion can form a noble person who is always obedient to God and
loyal to the country. Therefore, parents need to inculcate the noble values found in their
respective religious doctrines into the souls of their children. Furthermore, religion-based moral
values are essential to form a cohesive society.

According to Mohammah Jodi et al (2012), the value of something abstract is found in

the human heart and manifests in the social system. He added that the value found in a person
is built through various factors and situations throughout the life process that the individual goes
through. In general, values can be divided into positives such as good things (ma'ruf), the pure,
and the true. Bad values (munkar) are considered as negative values such as cheating, cruelty,
etc. as outlined in the Islamic axiological system.

The appreciation of noble values is a key factor that can ensure the formation of
understanding and cohesion in interpreting and realizing the vision of 2020 (Nik Azis Nik Pa,
1994). According to Nik Azis Nik Pa (1994) the appreciation of noble values is a major factor
because material progress without moral and ethical values will not create lasting well-being
and harmony, but instead bring a lot of ugliness and tyranny. Even the appreciation of pure
values is an internal barrier factor to not abuse the intelligence, skills, position or wealth
possessed.

According to Jamiah et al. (2004) explained that there are several principles that need
to be present in measuring one’s religious appreciation. The principles are (a) assessment
based on external aspects only, (b) measurement can be made but the most accurate actual
measurement is the right , (c) measurement of religious appreciation is based on manifestations
of faith, Islam and compassion. Students should be encouraged to emulate and practice good
values as an appreciation of self-skills and the quality of good citizenship as well as concern for
issues of life and self-development (Abd. Rahim Abd. Rashid, 2001)

At the school level, positive moral education and noble values applied by teachers, will
be able to prevent students from being trapped in various external negative influences that do
not provide any benefits and benefits. Former Prime Minister, Tun Sri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad
introduced the subject of Moral Education at the primary and secondary school levels with the
aim of inculcating the noble values of teenagers since school. This is because the country
needs a generation that is knowledgeable, authoritative and visionary, disciplined, prudent,
dedicated, broad -minded and positive.

Conducive teachers and school conditions can help students to create noble values in
themselves. The existence of these noble values can produce excellent students not only in the
academic field, but also in the co-curricular field. For example, teachers who show a positive
attitude can be role models to students. In addition, the conducive school environment and
complete with learning facilities can facilitate students to learn and in turn can cultivate a
positive attitude in themselves. That's how a school can help its students become someone who
has pure values in them.

The attitude and quality of responsible teenagers can only be obtained if there is
education of values and morals at an early stage. Education 5 this good is also capable of
producing youths with noble personalities. This group will have a true and correct instinct
(conscience) and will always be prevent the occurrence of injustice. Meanwhile the value is
sublime as well can be a measure of the reflection of the appearance of a nation. This means
the excellence of something the nation was built against the backdrop of a strong and serious
determination in build a community.

There is no denying that society today is too materialistic and obsessed with luxury.
Therefore, the notion of some who consider the so -called value of love that can be exchanged
for property is a big mistake. In fact, these increasingly prevalent social symptoms stem from a
lack of love from their parents. Parents are too busy and have no time to inculcate good family
values such as decency, manners and good behavior to their children. Therefore, in order to
cultivate good values in children, parents must always be concerned about their children to build
a harmonious family.

In conclusion, all communities in this country need to know and practice the noble
values in themselves. This is so because, there is a lot of importance for the pure values that
exist in us. In addition, there are also many steps to create these pure values. As a result, the
country will have productive and quality citizens.
