Varkala is a destination of Pilgrim age and Tourism known internationally . Around 50000 Foreign and

Ministers, top Gov ernm ent Officials and Subject Experts as m em bers of the Gov erning Body . The total

Project cost is Rs. 1 0 Cr. As an initial step for the im plem entation of Construction of CPA, Planning
Com m ission, Gov ernm ent of India sanctioned Rs.3 Cr and Gov ernm ent of Kerala sanctioned Rs. 1 Cr for

VIVID Corporation.

Aims of Cent re for Performing Art s, Varkala:

1 . To plan, prom ote, dev elop, operate, own, m aintain, all infrastructural facilities, prepare

project and feasibility report; im plem ent projects and dev elopm ent of schem es; m onitor econom ic
and social welfare activ ities, render technical, financial and m arketing supports and undertake
dev elopm ent projects and serv ices of Gov ernm ent, public, priv ate , joint sectors;

2 . To prov ide all infrastructural facilities for establishing or for facilitating the establishm ent of,
m anufacturing, processing or packaging industries; electronic, hi-tech or knowledge based
industries; agro based, food processing industries; tourism , leisure, recreation etc

3 . With the help of Modern Technology do research and ev olv e unique trends in presentation of
Art form s.
 4 . International Training Centre for Martial Arts, Folk Arts and Classical Arts.

5. Help prom oting Tourism in India.

Cent re’s Specialit ies:

1 . Kav u, Kulam (Lotus Pond) – which hav e traditional as well as m y thical backgrounds. In the “Kav u” –

the serpent dance and snake worshipping folk arts form s will be presented.

2 . Them e Nights Program m e based on m y ths designed with the help of Modern Technology .

3. Special Art and Cultural festiv als of international standards.

4 . “Gurukulam ” sty le of teaching.

5. Kalari – the internationally acclaim ed Martial Art form . Facilities will be prov ided for training and

perform ance.

6 . Eco friendly structures, Concert Halls, Am phi theatre.

A Design Com m ittee is form ed to approv e the design of the Centre and also to prov ide guidance for the
sm ooth functioning of the Centre. The Construction Work of the Centre for Perform ing Arts is entrusted

with Hindustan Latex Life Care Ltd.

As per the GO(MS) No : 1 03 /2 01 3 /Tsm dated : 1 0-04 -2 01 3 , Tourism Dept accorded Perm issiv e Sanction

to transfer 2 acres of land in Gov ernm ent Guest House Com pound, Varkala for the establishm ent of the

Centre for Perform ing Arts. The prelim inary drawings of the work has been com pleted and subm itted to
Varkala Municipality and the Municipality prov ides Building Sanction for the construction of the Centre.

The Centre for Perform ing Arts is a m ulti-use perform ance space that is intended for use by v arious

ty pes of the perform ing arts, including Koodiy attom , Kathakali, Chakky arkoothu, Mohiniy atoom , Thullal,

They y am , Kalam pattu, Thiruv athira, Markgam kali, Oppana etc including v arious dance

m atured with the rich cultural heritage of Kerala and its wide v arieties of perform ing arts and crafts, the

Varkala Centre for perform ing arts and crafts hav e been giv en a div ine design concept.

The centre will be a unique institute in India in all respects. A need based approach m ay be followed in

the setting up of the Centre. “Teach, Learn and Perform” is the operational concept behind the Centre.
The prospectiv e tourists in the Centre can Learn and practice the Kerala art form s in the Centre itself. The

faculty of the Centre striv es to prom ote the wonder of perform ing arts of Kerala within the gentle

discipline of a positiv e and professional env ironm ent. The Centre m ay prov ide a natural env ironm ent
com prising of Nalukettu, Kootham balam , Kav u, Kulam , Kalari etc. All prov isions with in the centre will

be standardized with a unique brand. The centre is proposed to be established as a God’s own v illage in

Varkala for popularizing the extinct form s of Traditional Art with an eco-friendly atm osphere. The Centre

will be a great attraction to the tourists v isiting Varkala.
