Ticker Tape timer

-used to measure velocity and hence acceleration

-it uses cm/s as units for velocity and cm/s2 for acceleration
-ticker tape is connected to an object, as the object moves it pulls the tape
-diagram below shows the dots pulled at different velocities will be as follows

-A ticker tape has a frequency of 50Hz, it produces 50 dots per every second
-time interval (space between two successive dots) is called a tick

1
-time interval=
frequency
1
¿ s
50
¿ 0.02 s
-So average velocity is calculated as

distance measured between dots

velocity=
number ofticks ×0.02 s
change ∈velocity
-Acceleration is then given by; acceleration=
time interval
QUESTIONS:
1.A tape is pulled steadily through a ticker-timer of frequency 50 Hz. Given the
outcome below, calculate the velocity with which the tape is pulled.

2. The tape below was produced by a ticker-timer with a frequency of 50Hz. Find the
acceleration of the object which was pulling the tape.
