Day 2: Action Research (Creating a Proposal) and Methodology
On the second day of December 15, 2020, all teachers were gathered online for the In-Service Training
Seminar (INSET) to discuss the possible topics in preparing the Action Research. It all started by singing the
national anthem and a prayer. The first presenter was Marnick S. Gutierrez a Master Teacher from Parada
National High School whose expertise and skills in writing the Action Research was established. He began
showing pictures of the scenarios of teachers inside and outside the schools, especially in the New Normal
Setting. According to the Regional Memorandum No. 57, s. 2018, “Reformulated Regional Research
Agenda Version 2 and call for Research Proposals” is hereby articulated to provide guidance to Schools
Division Offices and other stakeholders in the conduct of education research and the utilization of research
results to inform the Department’s planning, policy, and program development aligned with its vision,
mission, and core values. Aside from that, DepEd Order no. 39, s. 2016 promulgated the Basic Research
Agenda, which makes known the research priorities of the Department across four themes which include (a)
Teaching and Learning, (b) Child Protection, (c) Human Resource Development, and (d) Governance. He
also tried to inspire us to begin writing the action research by showing his work entitled “Enhancing
Reading Comprehension of Grade 7 students through I R.E.A.D” he made sure that in writing we can create
something very useful, especially in the new normal setting. And for session 4, Ms. Rio Cruz discussed the
Methodology in writing the Action Research. She began to differentiate the types of research methodologies
in preparing our Action research and to ensure confidentiality in handling the data of respondents.
