This document proposes new dissolved gas limits for transformers used in wind applications. Statistical analysis of gas concentrations in over 500 transformers found concentrations exceeding current limits without issues. The document suggests higher limits to match the 90th percentile failure rate used to set existing limits. A table of proposed new limits is provided based on concentrations from transformers operating problem-free for over 5 years. The goal is to better assess transformer condition and maintenance for the wind industry.

BACKGROUND RESULTS CONCLUSIONS
The IEEE Guide C57.104 (currently under revision) has Existing Gas Concentration Limits (IEEE C57.104-2008) cannot be been developed primarily with Large Power Transformers directly applied to Oil-immersed Transformers for Wind Turbine in mind, and the Table with Dissolved Gas limits are based By analyzing the DGA results of a population of Generator Duty. in concentration of gases in Transformers with “several approximately 500 WTGSU Transformers, along with the thousands gallons of Oil”.
