A. What is the advantage of a human rights approach to women's development?

● Tolibas- The advantage of a human rights approach to women’s

development is, it increases awareness of women’s rights and particular
needs.
● Cruz - It allows women to end discrimination by fulfilling women’s
fundamental human rights
● Hermogeno - It allows women’s development to be notified and prioritized
since some of the women’s rights/development are being ignored because
of previous beliefs and social misconceptions. With the human rights
approach, women’s development will be prioritized and will be protected at
all costs.
● Bentulan - promotes the eradication of illiteracy and provides participation
of women to economic, social, industrial, and cultural development.
● Gallino - It will give a sense of protection to women and empower women,
there will not be social struggles of women, also no women will be
“overexploited”.
● Lahom- It helps women to be notified and prioritized when some of the
liberties of women are neglected due to past perceptions and societal
stereotypes. The human rights strategy will give priority to the
development of women and will protect them at all costs.
● Delos Trinos - The advantages of a human rights approach to women’s
development is, to accelerate women’s actual equality in all spheres of life.
And to eliminate discrimination, ensuring the legal protection of women’s
rights, refraining from discriminatory actions, protecting women against
discrimination by any person. Eliminate the social, cultural, and traditional
patterns that perpetuate harmful gender stereotypes and to create an
overall framework in society that promotes the realization of women’s full
rights.
● Salandanan - Winning rights for women is about more than giving
opportunities to any individual woman or girl; it is also about changing how
countries and communities work.

B. What are some Philippine laws or proposed bills addressing women issues?

● Tolibas - RA 8353: Anti-Rape Law of 1997

● Hermogeno - Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995
● Gallino - RA 6275 - Prohibition on discrimination against women
● Bentulan - Anti-Trafficking of Persons Act 2003 (RA 9208)
● Lahom- RA 7192: Women in Development and Nation Building Act
● Salandanan - Rape-Victim Assistance and Protection Act (RA 8505)
● Delos Trinos - RA 9710 - Magna Carta of Women

C. How would women, and the general public, benefit from policies or laws that
protect and empower women?

● Hermogeno - Women’s protection will be prioritized twice as much since

harassments/discrimination hinders women’s development since they
experience physical, mental, emotional degradation because of the
harassment they experienced.
● Tolibas- Women can participate and decide for the better of the
community, in this way they have standing in our society which makes
them important. They will have benefits for the government, help, grants,
and programs that will help them.
● Cruz - Women can ensure greater numbers of women held positions in
politics and Government through quotas or affirmative action, thus
allowing them to participate more in decision-making processes.
● Bentulan - with these policies or laws that promote protection and
empowerment for women, it will be easier for them to participate in
political positions and community services since discrimination against
women is being neglected for the benefit of equality of the community.
● Gallino - it is essential in our society's development. It will enhance
human resources and achieve gender equality. It will also ensure the
sustainable development of the country.
● Lahom - With these laws implemented, the world would see a whole new
perspective that could change how people see women. Being able to be
heard by the public would benefit not only the women but also men
because they will realize that women have a lot of potentials.
● Salandanan - It shall promote the empowerment of women and pursue
equal opportunities for women and men and ensure equal access to
resources and development results and outcomes.
● Delos Trinos - It is a comprehensive women's human rights law that seeks
to eliminate discrimination through the recognition, protection, fulfillment,
and promotion of the rights of Filipino women, especially those belonging
to the marginalized sectors of the society. It conveys a framework of
rights for women based directly on international law.

D. What are the stated aims of some Philippine women-specific policies and
guidelines mentioned in this chapter? Why are they necessary?

● Hermogeno - To recognize how important women are when it comes to

nation-building and to show that women can affect and bring good impact
to the development of the nation They are necessary because women are
being treated as someone lower than men for centuries/decades, thus,
this policies/guidelines is necessary to remove that gap and the
discrimination that they experienced
● Tolibas - Some Philippine women-specific policies and guidelines aim to
provide services and protection for the benefits of women, who are
experiencing discrimination in society.
● Bentulan - it was stated in this chapter that Philippine women-specific
policies and guidelines are being structured for their needs such as health
concerns, protection against gender-based violence, and eradication of
discrimination in schools, workplaces, and such. It is necessary since
women are always looked out as the weaker sex though having such
policies and laws would help and protect them from issues about women.
● Gallino - eliminate discrimination in terms of promotions, training
opportunities in companies, and to stop favoring male employees.
● Lahom - This aims to acknowledge how essential women are when it
comes to developing a country, and to prove that women can influence
and have a positive effect on the growth of the country. It is important
because women are still viewed as lesser sex while implementing those
laws and policies will potentially support and shield them from women's
problems.
● Salandanan - This affirms women’s rights as human rights and shall
intensify its efforts to fulfill its duties under international and domestic law
to recognize, respect, protect, fulfill, and promote all human rights and
fundamental freedoms of women, especially marginalized women, in the
economic, social, political, cultural, and other fields without distinction or
discrimination on account of class, age, sex, gender, language, ethnicity,
religion, ideology, disability, education, and status.
● Delos Trinos - The Magna Carta of Women spells out every woman's right
to, Protection from all forms of violence, including those committed by the
State. Protection and security in times of disaster, calamities, and other
crises, especially in all phases of relief, recovery, rehabilitation, and
construction efforts, including protection from sexual exploitation and
other sexual and gender-based violence. Equal access and elimination of
discrimination against women in education, scholarships, and training.
This includes revising educational materials and curricula to remove
gender stereotypes and images, and outlawing the expulsion,
non-readmission, prohibiting enrollment, and other related discrimination
against women students and faculty due to pregnancy outside of
marriage. Equal rights in all matters relating to marriage and family
relations.
