Health, Education, Social Media

Health is what keeps us alive. Health is everything physical and mental to a human. For
everyone, health is an essential care to be taken of but also a matter of which most people
including me fail to mind. Whoever you are, you cannot do anything without good health.

Health is a serious social problem in most developing countries where health education is
deprived of. In Myanmar, many people partake of a variety of unhealthy foods which, on the
other hand, is reachable for its low cost. Most of the street shops have bad sanitation like unclean
dishes, reckless littering around, dirt coming in by the vehicles passing by, etc. The regional
‘development committees’ shut their eyes to the critical health problems when they get bribed
from the illegal street shops on the crowded road which is an accumulative place for the severe
diseases affected by various kinds of air pollution around.

Cigarettes and liquors are one of the most tempted consumptions in almost every place in
the world. For smoking, it harms both the primary and secondary smokers. The Health Ministry
of Myanmar should raise taxations on the legal drugs and implement more health awareness.
“Prevention is better than cure.” Of course, health education must systematically be added into
schools starting from primary till university.

Speaking of education, our government offered only a meagre amount of knowledge and
insufficient school facilities on this major aspect. The old Governments destroyed the proper
education to close eyes and ears of the public. Anyway, there has been a little change in
government schooling for the bright side. It should be highly expected for the future of our
nation since education is the most powerful weapon in the world. The more educated citizens,
the more peaceful place to live in.

Only with good education will people understand how to use social media in this modern
age. This is because social media are business makers who could deliver both subjective and
objective news toward the readers. There is a giant gap between elder people and youths of
today. Even my mom has started using Facebook for around one year but the problem is that she
believes everything on it. You could argue that it is not a matter of age but maturity of
utilization. Well, I agree to some extent. The fact is that most old people and newbies to social
media are quickly drawn attention to hoax news and hate speeches, especially.
Today there is almost no one in Myanmar who does not use Facebook and Messenger.
Many people do not yet have knowledge about how these social media apps run for their
business. Most importantly, they do not even know the capability of a phone can do for the
improvement of life when in good use. In the age of science technology, those who lag behind
this mechanism are more easily controlled through privacy concerns and information.

Social media must be a tool for pleasure and knowledge, not our decision maker. For
example, we can type and read about health, education, any many other things. There are many
free posts on Facebook such as learning English vocabularies and cooking recipes. We can also
learn in our leisure time about the new advancement of technology, or philosophy through
videos.

To sum up, education is the key to everything in the world.
