Warm-up and Objective Discussion
Lead-in:
Revision of the vocabulary from the previous lesson, check how well they know present simple and
activity verbs. Ask them:
What activities they like?
What is a good way to meet new people?

Instruct and Model  R  W  L  S

Pre-teach vocabulary:
1. Do exercise 2A on p. 18 together as a class (using activity verbs), Unit 2.1 (Speakout
Elementary).
2. Then they do exercise 2B.
3. Highlight the use of go + -ing. Explain the necessity of remembering the collocations (listen to
the music, do sport, play the piano…).
4. Ask: What tense are the verb in the sentences in?
5. Students describe pictures on p.18 in the textbook (what are those people doing?) – practicing
activity verbs and collocations.
6. Exercise 2C.

Guided & Semi-guided Practice  R  W  L  S

Exercise 1A; work in pairs and discuss the best way to meet people in a new city. Use activity verbs.

Exercise 1B and 1C; read the short texts independently. Underline all verb + noun collocations in the
texts/write them down.
Ask for words they don’t understand, then read together. As they match persons 1-3 from the exercise
with the meeting groups on the right, make them justify their answers (What does that person like?
Why is the group good for them?); check correct use of present simple and activity verbs.
Students answer one after another which group they would choose.
Instruct & Model 2; Independent Practice 1  R  W  L  S
Students do exercise 7A on their own and elicit
meanings of and, but, or. Refer to the texts in the
previous exercise.
Do the exercise 7D in pairs (one student says what they like, their classmate answers with a compound
sentence using one of the conjunctions.

Independent Practice 2  R  W  L  S
1. Students write a short text about what they like to do. (E.g. I like to watch movies but I don’t like
walking.) Explain and provide examples. Encourage them to refer to all the previous exercises.
2. Then they swap their texts in pairs. Each student writes another, two-paragraph long text, where
he gives advice to their classmate how to meet people in a new city.
Use activity verbs and learned conjunctions. Refer to the textbook.

Assessment  R  W  L  S
1. The teacher draws a word web with activity verbs from the lesson on the board. Each student
comes and collocates a word that can go with the verb.
2. Assessment of the written assignment.
