Ans –Equatorial region is a region lying near the equator, both North and South of it and has hot ,wet
and humid type of climate throughout the year.

Ans-Central African Republic and Sudan in the north, Uganda, Rwanda ,Tanzania and Burundi in the east

Republic of the Congo in the West and

Zambia and Angola in the South.

Q 3What is the importance of the Zaire river?

Ans-The Zaire river is the second longest river in Africa. It is called the Highway of Central Africa.

Q4 Describe the climate of Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Ans--Due to its location near the equator the temperature is very high throughout the year. It has a hot,
wet and humid climate. Evenings and nights are cool and comfortable.

Q 5Why are the forests in Democratic Republic of the Congo called Evergreen forest?

Ans---The forest remains green throughout the year so they're called Evergreen forest.

Q 6 Why is Democratic Republic of the Congo called the natural zoo of the world?

Ans--The forest of Democratic Republic of the Congo provide habitat to a large number of animals, birds,
reptiles, insects, et cetera. Hippopotamus’s ,gorillas ,giraffes, chimpanzees, elephants, monkeys and
baboons roam through the forest .These forests have reptiles like snakes and python’s in abundance
.The rivers are full of alligators and crocodiles .A special mammal called okapi is also found here .So it is
called the natural zoo of the world.

Q 7Describe the lifestyle of the pygmies,.

Ans--The pygmies are a primitive tribe who live in dense forest. They are extremely short and live in
houses made from twigs ,leaves and tree branches .They live by hunting, trapping animals and gathering
honey and food.

Q 8What is cassava? Explain.

Ans-‘The cassava plant has long and fleshy roots or tuber’s under the ground .Its tuber’s are used to
make flour. It is the staple food crop.

Q 9 Why is water an important resource in Democratic Republic of the Congo?


Ans--Water is an important resource here.

It is used for producing hydroelectricity which makes up for shortage of fuels like coal and petroleum .

Q 10 What type of transport system does Democratic Republic of the Congo have?

Ans--Democratic Republic of the Congo has an underdeveloped transport system . Water transport is
important. Matadi is the chief seaport and Kinshasa is an important river port .Roads and railways are
also there but they are not well maintained. People prefer to travel by air.

Q 11The climate and vegetation of which state of India is almost similar to those of Democratic Republic
of the Congo? how?

Ans--Kerala in our country has hot and wet and humid climate just like Democratic Republic of Congo.
