Forward
The information in this module practical tasks of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Training
in the basic rating category B1.1 & B2 are prepared by Interglobe Aviation LTD (IGO)meets
the minimum standards of CAR 147 Basic and CAR 66 issued by Director General of Civil
Aviation (DGCA). However, the order of the material presented is at sole discretion of IGO.
Skill level required for basic rating category B1.1 & B2 of aircraft maintenance engineering
license remain unchanged from the requirements of CAR 147 Basic and CAR 66 issued by
DGCA from time to time. Provisions are made for any amendments, if required.
Each procedure is given a unique number for easy testability and tasks are designed ATA
chapter wise to standardise the practical tasks.

Task The propeller assembly is comprised of :
Procedure
- 6 blades with external de-icers and counterweights,
- a hub
- a pitch change actuator,
- a spinner,
- a bulkhead for spinner attachment with the slip ring assembly,
- an oil transfer tube,
- related propeller-to-engine mounting hardware.

Blades
Each blade is composed of :
 A composite material envelope and spar which are linked to a steel blade
shank.
On the blade shank there is an off-center trunnion fitted with a bearing. The
trunnion drives the blade for pitch change when activated by the pitch change
mechanism/ piston assembly.
 The spar, which is the primary structural component, is protected by the

shell from the environment and foreign object impacts. The composite spar
consists of a steel retention component (tulip) bonded to a polyurethane foam
core. This assembly is covered with a full length composite layout of braided
graphite fibers and unidirectional graphite layers.
 The spar composite material is bonded to the tulip with a high
strength structural adhesive. The necked down region of the tulip between
the airfoil and circular retention region provides a natural locking mechanism
for the braided composite spar material. This physical locking feature is
further enhanced by external circumferential composite wraps.

Blade back (Camber Side) and Blade Face

 A bonded rubber heater offers deicing capability. Lightning protection

is provided by a metallic mesh positioned radially from the tip to shank flush
with the shell on both face and camber sides and grounded inboard to the steel
retention.

Leading Particulars

 Diameter 12.9 ft. (3.93 m)

 Dry Weight (propeller assembly) 350 lbs (159 kg)
 Right Hand Rotation
Rotational Speed 1200 rpm corresponding to 100% on NP

 Pitch change range 78.5° to -19° (Beta Ref.)

 Feather angle 78.5° (Beta Ref.)
 Reverse angle -19° ± 0.5° (not less than) (Beta Ref.)

NOTE : The pitch angles are given in function of the blade reference station.

The blade reference station is identified by a yellow stripe.

Hub
All rotating 568F propeller system parts are attached to a one-piece steel hub,
which has hardened integral raceways and provisions for flange mounting on the
engine shaft. Six blades are individually retained in the hub and located radially by a
dual row ball bearing race and blade support ring.
The hub contains 5 US quarts of oil for lubrication of the pitch change mechanism.

Cautions/
Precautions
The anti-icing system of engine propeller blades is an electrical system. It is
designed to reduce and even to avoid loss of propeller performance and
possible damage, which could result from propeller operation in icing
conditions.
The propeller blade leading edge ice protection system is normally
selected only when icing conditions are encountered. It is designed to
minimize loss of propeller performance and possible damage, which could
result from operation in icing conditions.
Blade anti-icing is ensured by a heating element consisting of electrical

cycles. The MFC1 and MFC2 serve to control the heating element cycles,
following two operating cycles.

Information on the status of the propeller anti-icing functionality is

displayed on the DU, as well as related alerts and associated procedures.
Description
The propeller anti icing system is composed of the following components :
- MFC
- CAC and DU
- brush blocks
A. MFC
They ensure control and monitoring of all the system and the cycles
of the propeller blade heating elements.
B. CAC and DU
C. BRUSH BLOCK
The brush blocks provide the electrical connection between the fixed part
(engine) and the movable part (propeller).
