LINE AND BASE MAINTENANCE TRAINING COURSE
PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES
The LINE AND BASE MAINTENANCE TRAINING course general
layout is divided into 5 items:
- The Course training objectives
- The Course flow presentation (Course flow level I, II, III, Typical
lesson/ATA)
- The Training means, related to each lesson (ACT, ACT Trainer, V/A,
Aircraft)
- The Trainee's benefits from the AACT concept
- An Introduction to the next lesson: tool utilization (ACT Trainer)

Course training objectives
The trainee will be aware of safety precautions and human factor items
when operating systems and working around the aircraft.
The trainee will be able to operate the aircraft systems and recognize
normal and abnormal indications.
The trainee will be also able to name, locate and explain the function of
major components.
The trainee, with the use of aircraft technical documentation, will be able
to carry out all maintenance tasks and troubleshooting related to line and
base maintenance activities

Course flow
Course flow, levels I, II, III
At the beginning of the Level II and III sessions a level I review will
be done on purpose by the instructor.
Then the level III course is divided into 3 main groups:
- Electric/Avionics
- Airframe
- Powerplant
Each of them is divided by ATA system with 2 levels: level II and
level III

The instructor gives general information concerning the course as
introduction.

Training means, associated to each lesson
Theoretical information
After a general introduction the instructor gives theoretical information
concerning Control/Indicating, system description and Operation.
The component location is a self-study training using the V/A (Virtual
Aircraft) tools

Training means, associated to each lesson (continued)
Practical sessions
During practical sessions the trainee will answer to written questions
and do practical tasks using the trainee guide and Airbus technical
documentation like AirN@v, MMEL ...
Several tasks are done as operational scenarios:
o Servicing
o Component location
o Inspections and checks
o Bite and operational tests
o Trouble Shooting exercises
Example of Operational scenario:
With and example of a defect reported in the TECHNICAL
LOGBOOK by the flight crew, the trainees should be able to find
what are the MEL item numbers for the ECAM Warning using the
MMEL ENTRY.
Example of Trainee guide use:
Virtual Cockpit, Virtual Aircraft, Courseware and A/C Documentation
are available and displayed on the ACT Trainer to do tasks and
Troubleshooting exercises.
A practical booklet is given to the trainees with all administrative
information. There is a list of all tasks to do for each ATA.
Once the tasks are done, the instructor and the trainee sign and date
the booklet.

Safety precautions and Human factors
At the end of each lesson, warnings about safety precautions and
human factors are given to avoid personal injuries and /or aircraft
damage during training.

Debriefing
During the debriefing the instructor will show the correct answers to
the written questions and sum-up the session.

Theoretical assessment
After the debriefing a theoretical test is done with MCQ (Multiple
Choice Question) to check the acquired knowledge.

Field trip
When several ATAs are done a field trip is scheduled to visually see
the systems on a real aircraft.

Trainee benefits from the AACT training concept
The AACT (Airbus Active learning and Competence focused Training)
is a training concept with several tools. This concept is a theoretical and
practical training done on devices. In addition practical training on A/C
is also done.
Having all the training media available in the classroom gives a unique
opportunity to integrate theory and practical training.
Bringing the A/C in the classroom will allow a complete training tasks
(not only cockpit actions) and will efficiently prepare for practical training
and operation on real A/C.

Introduction to next lesson
The mouse is the main tool used on the ACT trainer.
To select something or do an action, use the left button.
To move on the right, left, forward or rearward, use simultaneously the
right button and the mouse movement.
For zooming, use the mouse wheel.
For head up, down, right or left, use simultaneously the right and left
buttons.

PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT
PRINCIPLE
The required competence has to be assessed and the assessment is
individual.
Operational competencies and their observable criteria have been defined
for training and assessment.
The assessment is used to confirm the trainee has the required competence.
The assessment is used continually during the training period (P1 & P2).
It consists of identifying the trainee strong points and to improve the
trainee weak points by additional coaching.

COMPETENCIES
During the P1 ACT exercise, the trainee performance is assessed on the
following competencies: Use reports and indications, Find and Use
Aircraft documentation, and Repots in logbook.
During the P2, the trainee performance is assessed on the following
competencies: Operate in compliance with environment, Correctly
perform actions, System interaction and Performs aircraft final / close-up.

COMPETENCIES

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT P1 ON ACT TRAINER
The Assessment Sheet supports up to 3 different periods of performance
assessment.
The Performance result can be Unsatisfactory when the observed
performance was not adequate/ had safety implications or Satisfactory
when the observed performance was adequate.
If "Satisfactory" level is reached at first assessment, it does not need to
be re-assessed. After an "Unsatisfactory" result, a coaching action is
conducted. The objective of the coaching action is to improve the
performance of the trainee and prepare him or her for a re-assessment.
If after 3 assessments the level is still "Unsatisfactory" then the
performance result of the competency is considered "Unsatisfactory".
If after the third assessment a Satisfactory Level is still not reached, a
remedial training and assessment will be defined on a case-by-case basis.
Only the failed competency has to be re-assessed.
After the remedial, if the trainee fails again the trainee can follow the P2
but cannot get the Practical Training Certificate.
