INTRODUCTION
• It's estimated that humans are producing the
equivalent of 10 million Blu-ray discs worth of
data every single day - and all of those ones
and zeroes have to be stored somewhere.
Now researchers in the UK just might have the
solution: a five-dimensional (5D) digital data
disc that can store 360 terabytes of data.
HISTORY OF DATA STORAGE
• Punch cards
• Punched tape
• Selectron tubes(4096 bits)
• Magnetic tape
• Magnetic drum
• floppy disk(256kB)
• Hard drive(80GB- 1TB)
• Compact disc(700MB)
• DVD(4.7GB)
5D TECHNOLOGY
• It was created by a team of scientists at the
university of Southampton in England.
• Data encoded in 5 dimensions
• Nick name superman memory crystal
• Paper presented on 17 Feb.2016
HOW DATA STORES
• Data in documents was recorded using ultra fast laser producing very
short and intense pulses of light the file is written in three layers of
nanostructure dots separated by five micro meters
DATA PRINTING ON THE GLASS
LIFE TIME
• 5D digital data storage in nano structured glass that
last 13.8 billions of years at temperature 160
centigrade

• Storage 360 tb/disc data capacity==75,000 DVDs

• 2013 scientist first exponentially demonstrate the

technology 300 kg digital copy of a text file was
recorded in 5d successfully data storage using nano
structures
Conclusion

These is more useful for organisations, we can

store the data safely for billon years
