VIDEO ACTIVITY 2

Dear students

This is an activity that wants you to work on the book “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”
and present it orally by making your own YouTube video.

Please read the instructions carefully before you do this task in order to do a good job, and
thus to contribute to your own learning objectives and satisfaction.

For this, you need the following:

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

• You need to add extra information in your video as follow:

1) The author’s brief biography.
2) The setting of the story. This means the geographic location where the story
takes place (for example: a country, a city/town, a farm, a planet, etc.) and the time
of the story, this is, when the story takes places (for example: a decade, a year, a
season, a time of day, etc.)

FLASHCARDS

• Make flashcards with pictures to describe the author’s biography and the setting. In
addition, make flashcards to describe the sequence of events of the story, and the
answers to the questions in step 4. You may use, either, your own drawings or
images from Google. Be creative.

PRONUNCIATION STAGE

• Because this activity needs you to be well prepared to pronounce, you have to
practice before you create your video.

IN THE VIDEO

• When you make the video, you should do the following:

1) Make a simple introduction on the topic.

For example: Hello, my name’s ____. Welcome to my video activity about

the book “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”.

2) Next, mention the author’s name and biography.

For example: The author’s name is _____.

3) After that, talk about the setting.

For example: The story takes place (in) _____.

4) Then, introduce the questions below, one at a time, and answer each one of
them.

• What are the main events of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in

chronological order?
• Describe the most interesting incident in the story. Also explain why and
support your points.
• What are the negative traits of Tom Sawyer? And what do you think about
that?
• How does Tom Sawyer’s character change at the end of the novel? And
what do you think about that?
• Compare the characters Tom, Huck, Injun Joe, and Muff Potter to each
other. Are any accepted by society? Why or why not? What each character
have to do to be accepted?
• Explore social issues that each character brings to the novel (Tom, Becky,
Huck, Injun Joe, Muff Potter), and how these issues still exclude people in
today’s world.
• What is the purpose of the book?
• Express your opinion on the book. Provide a reasonable basis for your
opinion.

For example: Personally, I think _____.

In my view _____.

5) Show the flashcards when you present the answer to each question.

6) Finally, say goodbye.

For example: It’s time to say goodbye. Thank you!.

7) Please, don’t read any type of information. Memorise the information because
you have to speak in front of the video camera, and this will help you to have a
good video presentation.

VIDEO GUIDELINES

• Your video should not be less than 4 minutes and not more than 4 minutes and
20 seconds.
• Please, manage the time appropriately.
• An important requirement is to introduce each flashcard as seen below.

• When your video is ready upload it onto YouTube.

• Finally, go to the Section “Forums”, then “Second Period”, and click on “Video
Forum 2”. Copy and paste the YouTube video link in this forum section only.
If you do it in a different section, it will not be graded.
• Allow me to remind you that you will have to post the video link once only. This
means that if you post it more than once, it will not be accepted.

IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHTS

• It is recommended that you record your video in a quiet place in order to avoid
external noise and to make sure that your voice is going to be heard clearly and
loudly.

• Please DO NOT use background music in your video. The only image that your
video should have is you in front of the video camera because what is important is
to watch you and hear you speaking.
• Make sure your camera is steady and your recording is clear.
• Open up your video and watch it to see how well it turned out. If you find that you
have to correct anything, you can make it again before posting. Check the sound
quality.

The forum section, to paste your video link, will be available from Wednesday, July
07th to Sunday, August 01st until 23:59.

ASSESSMENT

• Your task will be assessed according to the guides that you have in the instructions
of this document and your performance in your video presentation.
