Feni Lanka 114 MW Power Plant, a remarkable achievement by the

engineering talent of Lakdhanavi Limited, is located at Kashimpur, Feni,

Bangladesh. It is the third HFO fired power plant operated in Bangladesh by
Lakdhanavi Limited, a power generating arm of LTL HOLDINGS and one of the
leading engineering companies in Sri Lanka and as well as in Bangladesh. Being
an Independent Power Producer Feni Lanka 114 MW HFO Fired Power Plant
started their operation on 25th November 2019 while the civil construction
work was first started on 6th February 2019.

The plant comprises of six W18V50 & one W20V32 four-stroke diesel engine
with direct fuel injection from Wartsila, Finland. These engines incorporate
cutting-edge technologies which are equipped with single stage turbochargers
from ABB and intercoolers from Wartsila and are controlled by Wartsila’s own
UNIC C 2.0 control system.

For generating electricity there are seven 11 KV synchronous three-phase air-

cooled generators from ABB, Finland which are equipped with
anticondensation heater. In the switch gear room, it has MV circuit breakers
from Chint, China and HV circuit breakers from Schneider, Europe.

In the power evacuation side, it has two 85MV 11/132 KV main power
transformers from Jiangsu Huapeng Transformer Co. Ltd, China, a 5 km long
132 kV power transmission line and a gas insulated substation. For internal
usage of electricity, it has two 11KV/440V auxiliary transformers from LTL
Transformers (Pvt) Limited, Sri Lanka

For uninterruptible supply of fuel, in the bunkering side, it has ten tank lorries
from TATA, India having a capacity of 18500 L each. For storing fuel at plant, it
has two fuel storage tanks having total storing capacity of 10000 m 3.

For cleansing of oil, it includes ten oil separators form Alfa Laval, Sweden.

For generating steam at plant standby condition, it has one auxiliary boiler and
for generating steam at plant running condition it has three exhaust gas
boilers, all these four boilers are from Aalborg, Alfa Laval, Sweden.

Today after almost one commercial year of operation we feel very much proud
of high reliability and availability of our plant. After commercial date of
opening to till now Feni Lanka has maintained his track records of almost 11
months, maintaining an availability of 95% and a reliability above 98%.
Operating with comparatively high maintenance factors due to the fact of
burning HFO above statistics is very much appreciable. Feni Lanka has a very
young, energetic, and enthusiastic O&M team, comprising of sixty staffs who
are always dedicated for plant operation, time to time schedule maintenance
and overall cleanliness of plant, under the guidance of a very prudent senior
leadership. Besides these, Feni Lanka has built, using our own inhouse
capabilities, its own in-house software for scheduling and tracking all
maintenance activities which is called the ‘FLPL-Auxiliary Maintenance’ and for
forecasting and predicting fuel requirement which is called the ‘FLPL-Fuel
Forecast’. Feni Lanka has also incorporated custom-built special inventory
management system for its store to forecast, predict, and track the stock of
spares parts. Together with all these special features Feni Lanka has become
able to maintain a good track of reliability and availability during its last eleven
months of operation even under the crisis moment of Covid-19. Feni Lanka
prides itself on innovation, quality, safety, excellence of EPC, and brilliance of
O&M of the power generation industry. And coming soon Feni Lanka will be
implementing innovative technologies to enhance its beauty, safety, efficiency,
and environmental aspects. With its prudent O&M team, Feni Lanka will keep
on updating the knowledge and know how, by adhering to the latest
international standards. With all the achievements, combination of young,
energetic O&M team and the experienced, innovative leadership who
fashioned about the engineering excellence, Feni Lanka will continue their
journey for years to come. All the staffs of Feni Lanka are very much humbled
and most grateful to get Asian Power Award 2020 in four different categories.
Now Feni Lanka is at the forefront of independent power producers in
Bangladesh. These awards are a real boost for everyone working at our
company.
After successful operation for one contractual year FLPL is now continuing its
second contractual year with Bangladesh Power Development Board. Due to
remarkable achievements during the construction phase FLPL own Asian
Power Award 2020 in four categories. It has also achieved British safety award.
But was not the end, it was the actual beginning for FLPL. FLP

FLPL always believes in continuous development. Right after coming into

operation FLPL started working with performance development of the plant,
energy saving, eliminating or reducing environmental impacts, developing
green environment, social responsibilities, social welfare and etc.

During the year 2020 FLPL introduced an online electric heater in its fuel
system right after the Day Tank. Day Tank is a special type of tank which can
contain a such amount of fuel which is enough to run the plant at full load for
24 hrs. Usually purified fuel is stored in this tank. It is required to maintain high
(80 °C to 90 °C) temperature as fuel is directly feed to the engine from this
tank. Maintaining very high temperature of a bulk amount of fuel continuously
required much heat energy which is generally recovered from the exhaust gas
by means of heat recovery boilers. The condition becomes worse during the
winter season when plant factor goes down and there is no heat from the
exhaust which eventually leads to use diesel for heat generation. Using diesel
for heating a bulk amount of fuel during the winter time is always very much
costly. To solve this issue FLPL technical team came up with a solution that
includes an online electric heater in the HFO feed line to directly heat up the
flowing HFO the engines are consuming. After installation of this online heater
is no more needed to maintain a high temperature in day tank. Now
temperature only up to a certain level, which is much lower than the previous,
is maintained and the rest of the required temperature is maintained by the
online electric heater. After one or two hours there will be no need to
continuing the electric heater any more as after the running the engine the
exhaust heat becomes available. After implanting this technique FLPL diesel
consumption has become half of the previous consumption resulting a big
amount of saving.

During the year 2020, with a target to contribute in local social development,
under the CSR project FLPL started constructing a local primary school building.
It is a four storied building that can accumulate 500 students at a time.
To reduce environmental effects in 2020 FLPL came up with a plan named
“zero discharge plan”. In this plant FLPL commits that it will not discharge any
liquid waste in its nearby environment.
