India Govt. to setup Mega Textiles Cluster in AP

Andhra Pradesh: The Finance
Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that
the Indian Government will explore the
possibility of setting up a mega textile
cluster in Ponduru in Andhra Pradesh’s
(AP) in Srikakulam district and talks will
be held with the textiles minister for

She urged district officials to raise
the number of artisans in and around
Ponduru area to set up such a cluster.
The Minister said this while visiting
the Andhra Fine Khadi Karmikabhivrudhi
Sangam (AFKKS) at Ponduru on the

lay the foundation stone for a khadi

Mumbai: Flipkart, has announced the
expansion of its supply chain in Gujarat
with four new supply chain facilities to
support local sellers and to cater to the
growing demand for e-commerce. Flipkart
has enabled millions of consumers, sellers,
merchants, and small businesses to be a
part of India’s digital commerce revolution.
The expansion of the supply chain
in Gujarat is a testament to Flipkart’s
commitment to serving customers from
the state and nearby region in a fast
and seamless manner and contributing
to its economic growth by enabling
market access to MSMEs and other local
sellers. The new facilities are located in
Ahmedabad and Surat, and are collectively
spread across an area of nearly 5 lakh

Mumbai: Canada has seen a Y-o-Y
surge of 23.70 per cent in its apparel import
during H1 ’21, as per the latest data.
The country imported US $ 4.21
billion worth of garments in January to June
’21 period, as compared to just US $ 3.41
billion in H1 ’20. Amongst top 5 importing
destinations, India and China witnessed
decline in their market share to Canada.
China topped the tally with US $ 1.23
billion of apparel shipment to Canada in
H1 ’21, growing 13.90 per cent. However,
its share to Canadian import value shrank
to 29.27 per cent this year from 37.80 per
cent in H1 ’20.
Bangladesh also stayed positive
with US $ 570.71 million worth of garment
exports to Canada and grew by 25.17 per
cent on Y-o-Y basis. The country has also
seen a marginal increase in its share to
Canada market that reached 13.53 per
cent this year from 13.37 per cent in H1
’20 period.
Vietnam too posted good turnover
in the first half of 2021 as it clocked US
$ 524.34 million from its garment exports
to Canada, noting 34.76 per cent yearly
growth. Vietnam’s share upped to 12.43
per cent this year from 11.39 per cent in
the same period of 2020.
Another major exporting destination
to Canada – Cambodia – saw its share
increasing by about 1 per cent to take it
to 11.87 per cent in H1 ’21 from 10.89 per
cent in H1 ’20, and clocking export turnover
US $ 500.52 million in the review period.
India, however, couldn’t escalate its
share despite posting growth of 20.65 per
cent in its apparel shipment to Canada. The
country’s share remained 3.22 per cent in
H1 ’21 in total Canadian apparel import
value, down from 3.30 per cent in H1 ’20.

communities in Gujarat.
Mumbai: Pakistan has been raising
the bar in its apparel and textile exports
for some time now and rightly so as the
country’s exports have jumped significantly
by 53.92 per cent on Y-o-Y to USA in value-
terms during H1 ’21.
The Asian textile major has shipped
US $ 1.92 billion worth of textile and
apparel products to USA in January to
June ’21 period, as compared to US $ 1.51
billion in the same period of 2019 – that’s
pre-pandemic time.
Pakistan’s shipment to USA stood at
1,711.98 million SME in H1 ’21, noting 36
per cent Y-o-Y growth and 24.35 per cent
surge on 2-year basis.
Of total shipment in H1 ’21, apparels
constituted US $ 970.35 million (up 66.09
per cent Y-o-Y), while textile products
contributed US $ 951.43 million, growing
by 43.22 per cent as compared to H1 ’20.
The unprecedented growth in H1 ’21
is being attributed to the major disruptions
due to the lockdowns in competitive
countries like India, Bangladesh, Vietnam
and Central America.

copyrighted 4C model, to implement
an effective chemical management
programme to protect human health and
the environment from the harm caused

of chemical management in the textile

The 4C model consists of four
sections – commitment, competence,
critical point control and comprehensive

Mumbai: Easyjet has
announced plans to launch new
cabin staff and pilot uniforms
made from recycled plastic bottles
in collaboration with Northern
Ireland-based company Tailored

According to the airline, this

half a million plastic bottles from
ending up in landfills or seas each
year, totaling 2.7 million bottles
