Negros cops build house for

widow, five children
“BALAY, MO, HANDOM KO”
“A house is made with walls and beam. A home is made with love
and dreams”.

Kabankalan City Police Station initiated a project dubbed "Balay Mo,

Handom Ko" (Your house, Our Goal) as our own initiative to provide comfort to a family
who cannot have a decent home to live, amidst the threat of COVID-19 pandemic. This
project is in line with "Kapwa Ko, Sagot Ko!" Adopt a Family Program that enjoins all
well-off families to help the poor sustain stricter lockdown measure for the country to
finally win its war versus the COVID-19.

During our visit in some villages in the city, we meet Sherly Villarin of
Brgy. Tagukon, Kabankalan City, a widow with three children, and the only source of
their living is farming; his eldest child is a special child and the younger child was just
seven years old while another child got married at an early age. They all live in a house
made of light materials and situated on a hill. You still need to crawl through the door
just to enter their home, they don't have a decent room, a kitchen, or even a toilet. Upon
the seeing their destitute condition we decided to help Sherly Villarin.

Personnel of Kabankalan City Police Station and other stakeholders

contributed construction materials, while the 604th RMFB-6 did the carpentry at the
same time providing security during the construction of the house since the area was
identified to be rebel-infested. It took us more than a week to finish the house that was
partially made of cement and light materials, installed with a bedroom, toilet, dining
area, and kitchen and turned over the house to Sherly Villarin Last September 2, 2020.
She was very happy that she even cried, as she didn't expect to have a decent house
even in her dreams. It was the first house we built for a chosen beneficiary and we are
looking forward to provide the same to other beneficiaries. It was not that elegant, just
simple, but it was adequate enough for them to be comfortable and be protected.
