1.

Use MAKE to express the idea of producing or creating something (a bookshelf, a dress, a
mistake), or preparing food/drinks (a coffee, breakfast, a sandwich).
2. Use DO for actions, duties or repetitive tasks (exercise, dishes, ironing, homework)
3. ANOTHER is used to refer to someone/something additional with respect to
someone/something of the same type or a different type. It is ONLY used in front of a singular
countable noun.
4. OTHER is used to talk about a person/thing apart from the one already mentioned. It may
also indicate a remaining object/item in a set or group. It is NEVER used in front of a singular
countable noun.
5. USED TO: describes something that happened often in the past (actions or states) and no
longer happens.
6. TO BE USED TO: means being accustomed to something (it’s not new or strange).
7. GET USED TO: means becoming accustomed to something (it was strange, now it’s less
strange)
8. SAY/TELL: they have a similar meaning but they are used in different ways. With 'tell' we
usually say who is told (personal object) Eg They told us the truth. With 'say' we usually focus
on what is told instead of who, sometimes who is mentioned and in that case the word 'to' is
added after the content/message Eg 'He said goodbye to me'
9. AS/LIKE: both can be used to compare actions or situations. Have a look at the following
sentences and compare their meaning.
a) She works as the manager (= she is the manager)
b) She works like the manager (= in a similar way)
10. GET: the verb 'get' has several different meanings. Depending on the context it can mean
'become', 'arrive', 'obtain', 'buy', 'understand', among other meanings. (refer to the
vocabulary list for more examples).

Challenge for the next session:

Take 4 photographs from your daily life that illustrate commonly confused words. For example, someone doing their
homework, someone making a sculpture, someone doing exercises, and someone getting drunk. Send the pictures to the
WhatsApp group before the next class (at least 30 minutes)
