Text and Genre 

Text is a collection of signs and symbols used to convey message to the reader. Text
could be written or spoken. This is not only present on printed materials like books,
manuscripts, magazines etc. but so are in paintings, movies, performances and the like.
On the other hand, genre refers to a group or category mainly in artistic composition
such as literature. They are characterized and classified according to form, style and
pattern.
2. Text and Inter-Text
Text in literary sense, is the association of wordings and signs organized to transmit
information and make meaning. These are objects that can be read, may it be a work of
literature or those simply signs and symbols seen on streets.
Whereas, inter-text or intertextuality is a process of creating and shaping meaning when
one text relates to the other text. It is the relationship between similar work of literature
that might reflect and influence audience’s interpretation.
3. Seeing as Reading
When we see things it is not just we are viewing it as what appeared in the outward
surface but rather we register it to our mind—forming and formulating conclusions and
reactions related to what we have interpreted. We don’t just view, we observe.
Therefore, seeing is also an act of reading.
4. New Technologies of Seeing
Since the advent new technologies we are already surrounded with devices and
mechanisms that helps us to make our life easy and convenient. In our generation now,
we can examine how vast the influence of technologies to our daily lives. Especially in
these times which heed to the call of virtual reality; we are all shifting now in this new
modes and undeniably it plays an important role to us. These are far more than just a
know-how method but a principle of action instead.
5. Tacit Seeing
Most often than not, we perceived things solely relying to the physical attributes or
features, we forget to take a deeper look beyond our line of gaze. That is why, we need
to widen our sense of seeing by looking not just on the outside world but on what really
is inside. It is when we dive to the inner aspect that we really get the whole picture.
6. Arresting Reality
Arresting reality is photography or capturing freeze images that draws countless words.
When we do photography we are actually not ceasing the moment but we are collecting
events and memories through a form of photo or image. We arrest reality through
photography because we wanted to witness and document our everyday walks of life—
could it be a moment of happiness or sadness.
7. Seeing in Context
Seeing in context entails exhibiting on how the external forces or environmental
constraints affect the way we perceived things. It involves our discrimination of
fundamental concept of lightness and darkness. It is the interaction between the way we
see everything and the environment we had. Environment can be comprised of people,
cultures, norms, events and so much more.
