When we say transcendent values are independent of time, space and people,
this simply means that these values remain true and certain regardless of generation,
geographic location and ideologies of a person. In other words, these values are not
affected by these mentioned variables (time, space and people).
Transcendent values refer to those values which are unshakable and unchanged
through time. Even if no one values it, but still it remains as a value. Love, care, respect,
humility, honesty, kindness and generosity are some of the examples of these universal
values which are practiced by idealist type of people.
2. According to the advocates of value clarification, how can you test if a value is really
your value?
According to the proponents of the approach, Values Clarification, values are proven to
be your value if it satisfies the following criteria:
First, freely chosen, this means that you are not forced by someone or something to
have that value, it is what you really want to.
Second, chosen among alternatives, meaning, choices are given and what you will
need to do is to choose among them. When we choose values to hold on, we need to
be prudent to ensure that we have really chosen the best among the rest.
Third, chosen after due reflection, sometimes we are shaped by the experiences and
the painful season of life we have overcome. We do reflect after all and our
perspectives as well as our values do really changed.
Fourth, prized and cherished, as rational beings we are supposed to choose values
that are worthy of all, those that will lead us towards a virtuous life.
Fifth, publicly affirmed, or those that is accepted by the society and majority of people.
