Title of the Session Experimental Probability

Duration, Date, and Venue 2 hours, SDO Cauayan City
Target Participants and Profile Grade 5 Teachers OF SDO Cauayan City
Objectives Terminal Objective: Gain deeper understanding on experimental probability and apply it in mathematical
problems and real-life situation.
Enabling Objectives: At the end of the session the participants should be able to:
 Describe experimental probability.
 Perform an experimental probability and records result by listing.
 Analyze data obtained from chance using experiments involving letter cards (A to Z) and number
cards (0 to 20).
 Solve routine and non-routine problems involving experimental probability.
Key Understanding/Input  Probability tells us how likely something is to happen.
 If something cannot possibly happen, the probability is 0. If something is certain to happen, the
probability is 1.
 Experimental probability is the ratio of the number of times an event occurs to the number of trials.
It is determined by doing an experiment.
 Discuss the steps in solving routine and non-routine problems involving experimental probability.

the lesson.
Motivate the participants by conducting an activity
entitled “MATH-HUHULA”.

The following steps are carried out:

a. Have three participants choose a number (a
positive integer) from 1 to 30.
b. Ask these participants whether their secret number
appears in each of the five cards to be shown

After the activity:

Say: We, as teachers, should be creative in presenting
our topics to our learners specially that our subject is
Mathematics. One crucial part of the teaching process
is to catch our learners’ interest. However, we should
make sure that the activity that we’re going to present
is related to our topic. The activity that we just
conducted is actually a product of today’s topic
which is all about probability. Probability is another
branch of Mathematics and it has a broad concept but
allow me to just focus on the competencies for Grade
5.

To solve problems involving experimental

probability, a 4-Step Plan is used:
- Understand
- Plan
- Solve
- Check

Examples:

1. A bag contains 12 mangoes and 4 bananas. What

is the probability of pulling mangoes?

2. Pedro writes the letters of the word below in pieces

of paper and put them in a box. He then picks one
letter at a time. What are the possible outcomes? Find
the probability of drawing P; a vowel; I or P.

3. The table shows the results of a card card

experiment.
Each time a card was picked, it was returned
to the bag.

1. How many trials of picking a card were

made?
2. How many times was blue card picked?
3. What is the experimental probability of
picking a red card?
