We present below a direct proof to the above statement for,
ax + by = a (X + Bt) + b (Y – At)
= aX + aBt + by – Abt
= ax + by + aBt – bAt
= C + t (aB – bA)
= C + 0 (Since d = Ad and b = Bd)
= C
Examples: Consider the following equation
112x + 70y = 168 (3)
We know that (112, 70) = 14.
(3) 14 8x + 5y = 12 (4)
(8, 5) = 1.
Therefore (4) has a solution. The solution of (4) is x =4 and y = - 4.
Therefore x = 4 and y = - 4 is a solution of (3).
