Beste lezers, TV-DX'ers / dear readers, TV DXers,
Zoals U ongetwijfeld ondertussen al zult weten, is de tijd, dat de DXR magazines op de avond van de sluitingsdatum samengesteld
worden, al lang voorbij. In de weken welke voorafgaan aan een nieuwe editie, worden telkens gedeelten van de inhoud door elke
redacteur samengesteld. Zo ben ik, Gösta, op de dag vóór Kerstavond alvast op mijn gemak begonnen met het compileren van een
gedeelte van deze inleiding. Dus ik ben echt niet te laat om U langs deze weg nogmaals te bedanken voor alle Kerst- en Nieuw-
jaarswensen, hi ! Ook hartelijk dank voor de vele goede wensen, wat betreft het goedlopende (!) DXR magazine. We gaan dan ook
op dezelfde voet verder met dit magazine. Als intermezzo blikken we nu terug op:
As you are no doubt aware, the DXR magazines are never compiled now on the evening of the deadline. In the weeks prior to a new
edition, parts of the content are compiled by each editor. For example, I, Gösta, started on the day before Christmas Eve compiling a
part of this introduction. So I am really not too late to thank you again for all Christmas and New Year wishes ! Thank you also for the
many good wishes, regarding the successful (!) DXR magazine. We will continue with this magazine in the same way. As an interlu-

i) Teletekst / Teletext.
Inmiddels hebben al veel omroepen hun teletekst opgeheven. De omroepen mét teletext mét een pagina met kerstwensen zijn op
één hand te tellen... Mijn magere “score” van vorig jaar, zie de foto's A - D.
Recently many broadcasters have canceled their teletext. The broadcasters with teletext with a page with Christmas wishes ? You
can count them on one hand... My meager "score" of last year, see the photos A - D.
ii) Een Kerstcadeautje voor Xavier ! / A Christmas present for Xavier !

In de vroege ochtend van 1e Kerstdag is er wel héél goede tropo DX geweest in Sept-Îles, QC. Xavier heeft toen voor het eerst een
digitale TV zender vanuit Newfoundland ontvangen. Het is tot nu toe zijn verste ontvangst, namelijk 1045 km ! Het signaal heeft de
helft van die afstand over water afgelegd. De zender was: kanaal A21 CJON-DT / NTV (New Foundland Television), St. John's, met
een vermogen van 485 kW. ERP. De foto's E - I tonen wat beelden rond de opening van het programma om 0600 NST (Newfound-
land Standard Time) = UTC / GMT - 3.30h, gevolgd door het programma “Martin the Cobbler” (4:3), @ Een eenzame schoenmaker
herontdekt zijn blind vertrouwen in God. Het is een bewerking van het oorspronkelijke verhaal van Lev Tolstoj. Aan het begin van dit
programma werden gedurende enkele minuten een aantal Kerstgroeten van kijkers in een lichtkrant onderin het beeld getoond. Foto
E toont de haven van St. John's via een camera met de identificatie “NTV” linksonder in het beeld. Dit beeld wordt uitgezonden wan-
neer er geen reguliere programma's zijn. Vlak voor de opening worden diverse beelden van Newfoundland getoond, zie de aan-
kondiging op foto F. De foto's G - I tonen dan de opening van het programma, inclusief een identificatieplaatje (foto G).
In the early morning of Christmas Day there has been very good tropo DX in Sept-Îles, QC. During that occasion Xavier has recei-
ved for the first time a digital TV transmitter from Newfoundland. It is also his furthest reception so far, namely 1045 km ! The signal
has travelled for half of that distance over water. The transmitter was: channel A21 CJON-DT / NTV (New Foundland Television), St.
John's, [485 kW. ERP]. The photos E - I on the next page show the opening of the programme at 0600 NST (Newfoundland Stan-
dard Time) = UTC / GMT - 3.30h, followed by the programme “Martin the Cobbler” (narrow screen), @ A lone shoemaker redis-
covers his blind faith in God. It is an adaptation of the original Lev Tolstoy story. At the bottom of the screen Christmas wishes from
viewers were showed in a news ticker during the first minutes after the start of this programme.
Photo E shows the port of St. John's via a camera with the identification “NTV” at the left bottom of the screen. This image is aired
during the period in which there are no regular programmes. Immediately before the opening, various images from Newfoundland
are shown, see the announcement on photo F. The photos G - I then show the opening of the programme, including an identification
slide (photo G).

Goed, wij hebben deze maand, dankzij al onze trouwe inzenders, alweer een zéér volumineuze editie kunnen verzorgen en uit-
geven met o.a. veel foto's. Zo is de fotopagina wederom in drie gedeelten gepubliceerd. In het derde gedeelte van de fotopagina
staan nog meer foto's van onze nieuwe DX'er en wel Xavier Lavoie uit Sept-Îles, QC. Het zijn opnamen van programma's via zijn
drie lokale “aardse” TV zenders, aangevuld met wat meer foto's van zijn eerste UHF DX met behulp van een “matje” in de top van
een steigerpijp op het balkon. Één van zijn lokale TV zenders is een analoog exemplaar met een ERP van niet minder dan 100 kW.
Het ligt helaas in de lijn der verwachtingen, dat deze analoge TV zender spoedig vervangen zal gaan worden door een digitale TV
zender... Het is verder nog niet bekend, wanneer Xavier een DX mastje met een rotor gaat gebruiken. Het is in Sept-Îles namelijk
nog steeds té koud en te gevaarlijk om hiervoor halsbrekende toeren op het dak te gaan uithalen.
Die steigerpijp heeft Xavier enkele dagen ná zijn eerste DX op de UHF samen met zijn broertje verlengd tot zo'n 10 meter ! Het
draaien gebeurt nog steeds handmatig. Wanneer de antenne in de juiste richting staat, dán wordt
de steigerpijp vastgezet door één van de twee klemmen vast te draaien waarin de pijp draait door
middel van een moersleutel. Hij heeft een eenvoudige manier bedacht om de richting te bepalen.
Dat geschiedt door een stukje draadeinde als wijzer te gebruiken. Dit stukje draadeinde is vastge-
draaid in een schroefdraad, welke aangebracht is in een andere klem die weer boven een plaat is
gemonteerd aan de pijp. Die vierkante metalen plaat met een gat voor deze pijp is met behulp van
een paar gelaste hoekstukken vastgeschroefd op de balustrade van het balkon. Aan de bovenkant
van deze plaat zijn de richtingen aangegeven. Dit is verre van elegant, maar wél doeltreffend ! Het
is immers maar een tijdelijke noodoplossing. Het is trouwens erg gemakkelijk om een buurman te
hebben, welke eigenaar is van een bouwbedrijf. En zijn werkplaats ligt op loopafstand van het huis
van Xavier.
Met laatstgenoemde hebben we trouwens nog meer “jong bloed” in de DXR gekregen. Hij is 19
jaar, nét als Matthieu in Saint-Jérôme. Ze hebben eerder samen in de klassen van een middelbare
school gezeten. Onlangs heeft Matthieu Xavier besmet met het DX virus...
Wat staat er al zo verder in deze editie ? In alweer de dertiende aflevering van de serie “De DVB-T2 zenders in Duitsland” heb-
ben we wat nadere informatie verzameld over de DVB-T2 zenders in de deelstaat Saksen-Anhalt (ST). Speciaal voor onze buiten-
landse DX'ers hebben we weer een nieuwe aflevering gepubliceerd van de serie “The DVB-2 transmitters in the Netherlands”.
Zoals beloofd heeft Pascal speciaal voor onze lezers en DX'ers in het buitenland de eerste aflevering gepubliceerd in de rubriek
“miscellaneous” van zijn nieuwe serie “The DAB+ transmitters in the Netherlands” met de gegevens van de DAB+ zenders in de
provincie Noord-Holland (NH). Verder heeft hij de voorlaatste aflevering samengesteld van de serie “De DAB(+) zenders in Duits-
land en wel met de gegevens van de DAB(+) zenders in de deelstaat Thüringen (TH).
Volgende maand kunt U weer een Special Contribution (en natuurlijk een Speciale Bijdrage) verwachten. Genoeg gekout nu, we
steken van wal met het nieuws, zoals vanouds, uit alle windstreken.
First of all, many thanks for the Christmas and New Year's wishes. Also thanks for the many good wishes regarding the (success-
ful !) DXR magazine. A day bofore Christmas Eve, I, Gösta, already started compiling a part of this introduction. Regarding the DXR
magazine, this month we again have compiled and published a voluminous DXR magazine with a lot of photos. So our photopage
has been published in three parts. In the third part you will see, among others, more photos of our new DX'er Xavier Lavoie. These
are photos of programmes of his three local "terrestrial" TV transmitters, together with some more photos of his first UHF DX using a
bowtie in the top of a scaffolding pipe on the balcony. One of its local TV transmitters is an analogue one with an ERP of 100 kW.
Unfortunately this analogue TV transmitter soon will be replaced by a digital one... At the moment It is not yet known when Xavier
will use a DX mast with a rotator. In Sept-Îles, it is still too cold and too dangerous to go on the roof.
A few days after his first DX on UHF, Xavier and his brother extended that scaffolding pipe to around 10 meters ! The turning is
still done manually. If the aerial is pointed into the right direction, the scaffolding pipe is fixed by tightening one of the two clamps in
which the pipe turns by means of a wrench. He has devised a simple way to determine the direction. This is done by using a piece of
threaded end as a pointer. This threaded end is mounted to the pipe with a clamp with a cut thread (for that piece of threaded end)
just above a plate. This square metal plate with a hole for the pipe is mounted using a pair of welded corner pieces on the balcony
balustrade. The directions are indicated at the top of this plate. This all is not elegant, but it is very effective, hi ! After all, this is just
an emergency solution. Furthermore, it is easy to have one neighbour, who owns a construction company. His workshop is also
within walking distance of the home of Xavier.
With the last mentioned we have even more "young blood" in the DXR. He is 19 years old. Matthieu in Saint-Jérôme is 19 years
too. They have previously been together in all high school classes. Matthieu has recently infected Xavier with the DX virus...
What else can you read in this edition ? In the thirteenth part of the series "The DVB-T2 transmitters in Germany" we have
compiled some more information about the DVB-T2 transmitters in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt (ST). Especially for our foreign
DX'ers we have published a new part of the series "The DVB-T2 transmitters in the Netherlands".
As promised, Pascal has published the first part of his new series "The DAB(+) transmitters in the Netherlands" especially for our
readers and DXers abroad in the column "miscellaneous" with the details of the DAB(+) transmitters in the province of Noord-
Holland (NH). He also has compiled the penultimate part of the series "The DAB(+) transmitters in Germany with information of the
DAB(+) transmitters in the federal state of Thuringia (TH).
Next month we will publish again a Special Contributin (and of course a Speciale Bijdrage) Now we will start immediately with
the news.

b) Algemeen.
De woiwodschappen van Polen vormen de hoogste bestuurlijke eenheden binnen Polen. Polen bestaat sinds de 14e eeuw uit
woiwodschappen, ook wel provincies genoemd, maar hun aantal, omvang en bevoegdheden zijn door de eeuwen heen
herhaaldelijk gewijzigd. Het huidige aantal van zestien woiwodschappen werd in 1999 gecreëerd, toen de indeling uit 1975 (met 49
woiwodschappen) werd vervangen. De huidige zestien woiwodschappen komen grotendeels overeen met historische Poolse re-
gio's; dit in tegenstelling tot de indeling uit 1975 die de provinciale indeling op de ligging van de grote steden baseerde.

Since february 3rd BFM Grand Lille and BFM Grand Littoral are on the air on channel D31. After BFM Paris and BFM Lyon this is the
turn for the Lille and Calais regions. BFM is an information programme, including sports, the weather and politics. (DRE).
POLAND (1)
Red Carpet is a new channel that on Monday, December 23rd, 2019 joined the offer of the local NTL multiplex broadcast in Radoms-
ko, Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Częstochowa and Łódź. Readers of the SatKurier forum reported that after a
change at distances of 50 - 60 km from the transmitters, there were problems with proper reception.
Red Carpet is the incarnation of Edusat television existing since 2002, operating since May 28 th, 2018.
According to information available on the station's Facebook profile, it is a channel about "stars, business,
culture and art." Other programs present in the NTL multiplex are: NTL, 4fun.tv, 4fun Gold, Eska TV Extra,
Stars.TV, TOP KIDS JR Junior Music, Power TV, Nuta.tv, TVR, TO ! TV and TV Okazje.

POLAND (2)
TV Okazje is a new channel that joined the list of programs in local multiplexes belonging to the MWE
group. Using the terrestrial antenna, it can be received by residents of Szczecin, the Wrocław agglome-
ration, as well in Radomsko, Częstochowa, Tomaszów (Mazowiecki) and Łódź. This change took place
on December 20th, 2019.
The Wroclaw MUX currently has twelve programs, including Polsat HD and TVN HD. The FEC parameter has been changed from
1/2 to 2/3, which means that the reception may be more exposed to distortions. (PR, via GLi, NLS).
UNITED STATES
☞ The fire on the transmitter mast on Mt. Mansfield, Vermont (VT).
A transmitter fire on an antenna of a broadcast tower on top of Mt. Mansfield in Vermont knoc-
ked out signals for two local news stations on November 20th, 2019. They were WCAX-TV and
WPTZ-TV.
CBS affiliate WCAX-TV and MyNBC5, or WPTZ, co-own the antenna and transmission line on
top of Mt. Mansfield in Stowe, and WCAX-TV owns the tower. Both stations told us on the mor-
ning of that day that they were working hard to get service back to their viewers. They were un-
sure how long this will take as the equipment was badly damaged.
According to WCAX-TV, engineers on their staff noticed something wrong with the signal on the
afternoon of the day before. When they went to Mt. Mansfield to investigate the situation, they
noticed the transmitter was on fire. Nearly a week later, and using a temporary antenna, service
has been returned to 98% of the providers in the market. WCAX was fully back on-air after the
installation of the temporary antenna on December 1st, 2019. (BFP, via PCO).

lection. Both are local reception of TV1Ch 7 Taumarunui NZL taken back in 1985
and 1986. Photo 76 displays "TE AROHA" in the lower bar, which indicates that it must have been directly relaying TV1 Ch 1 Te
Aroha NZL at the time.

Deze maand hebben we de ontvangsten kunnen verwerken van NLS, LLU, JON, PCO, WCO, JDW, RDW, NGA, MLG, PTR, XLA en
GLi (dus alwéér 12 inzenders !), waarvoor onze hartelijke dank. Ook in deze periode zijn er vele ontvangsten geweest als gevolg
van ducts én rustig winterweer met een hoge luchtdruk. Vooral in december 2019 zijn er goede troposferische condities geweest. Dit
doet mij, Gösta, denken aan 17 december 1971 met zéér goede troposferische condities. Toen heb ik zo rond het middaguur voor
het eerst de Ierse TV (RTÉ) in Band 3 ontvangen, zowel in 405 als in 625 lijnen. Een ander "goudhaantje" was ITA Ulster TV met het
bekende testbeeld "F" op de UHF ! Zie de foto's M - O hieronder.

Sinds kort hebben de twee zoons van Niels de jacht op Oostenrijkers geopend. Nee, het zijn geen crimineeltjes geworden, hi ! Er
wordt alleen maar jacht gemaakt op de TV zenders in dit land en wel in het speciaal op de regionale programma's. Ze hebben suc-
ces, want tot nu toe hebben ze al twee regionale versies ontvangen, namelijk op kanaal D24V ORF Vorarlberg en op kanaal D24H
ORF Tirol, zie de foto's P en R. Nogmaals, voor de ontvangst van alle Oostentijkse TV zenders is een SimpliTV kaart noodzakelijk !
Ook onze andere twee nieuwe TV-DX'ers Matthieu en Noah hebben wat nieuwe zenders ontvangen.
This month we have compiled the loggings of NLS, LLU, JON, PCO, WCO, JDW, RDW, NGA, MLG, PTR, XLA and GLi (so again
12 contributors !), thanks ! During this period there have been many receptions, thanks to ducts and calm winter weather with a
high pressure. Especially in December 2019 there have been good tropospheric conditions. This reminds me, Gösta, of December
17th, 1971, a day with very good tropospheric conditions. Then I have received around noon the Irish TV (RTÉ) in Band 3 for the first
time, in both 405 and 625 lines. Another "goldcrest" was ITA Ulster TV with the famous test card "F" on UHF ! See the photos M - O
above. The two sons of Niels recently have start the hunt for Austrians. No, they have not become criminals, hi ! They only are hun-
ting for the TV transmitters in this country and especially for the regional programmes. They have success, because so far they have
received two regional versions: on channel D24V ORF Vorarlberg and on channel D24H ORF Tirol, see the photos P and R. Again,
a SimpliTV card is required to receive all the Austrian TV transmitters !

☞ Na dagenlange overvloedige regenval, afgewisseld met wat stormen, is er eindelijk weer wat tropo DX. Volgens ons is het weer
hier ook echt aan het veranderen. We hebben na al die regen nu enkele dagen met vriestemperaturen overdag en 's nachts met
sneeuwbuien ('s nachts zelfs bijna tot -10° C !...). Een oude buurman, die altijd in Port Hardy gewoond heeft, vertelde ons, dat dit
héél uitzonderlijke weer is. Het is volgens hem zowat een halve eeuw geleden, dat het zó koud geweest is. En dat was slechts ge-
durende 1½ dag met -7° C als minimum temperatuur. In ieder geval mogen wij nog van geluk spreken, want in enkele delen in het
noorden van Canada is het 's nachts bijna -50° C geweest en dat was de echte temperatuur en géén gevoelstemperatuur. Ex-
treem koude temperaturen met gevoelstemperaturen tussen -50° C en -60° C zijn gemeld in de Northwest Territories in de och-
tend van 12 januari 2020 ! Bij Rick was de temperatuur buiten -50° C ! Dit heeft alles te maken met de zogenaamde “Polar Vor-
tex”. Hierdoor wordt koude lucht vanuit de Noordpool rechtstreeks naar onze streken gevoerd. Opmerkelijk is het feit, dat het dan
in vele gebieden in het noorden van Canada vrijwel altijd véél kouder is dan op de Noordpool zelf... Over enkele dagen zal de
vorstperiode weer verdwenen en dan gaan de hemelsluizen, zoals gewoonlijk hier, weer gans wijd open. Tot zover dan een kort

☞ After many days of abundant rainfall, including some storms, there is finally some tropo DX again. We think the weather here is
really changing too. After all that rain we now have already a few days with day and night freezing temperatures together with
snow showers (almost -10° C during the night !...). An old neighbour, who has always lived in Port Hardy, told us that this is very
exceptional weather. According to him, it was about half a century ago that it has been so cold here. And that was only during 1½
day with -7° C as the minimum temperature. In any case, we are lucky, because in some parts of northern Canada it has been al-
most -50° C during the night and that was the real temperature and not the windchill temperature. Extremely cold temperatures
with wind chills between -50° C and -60° C have been reported in the Nortwest Territories in the morning of January 12th, 2020 !
Rick has mailed us, that the temperature outside his house was around -50° C. This all has to do with the so-called "Polar
Vortex". As a result, cold air from the North Pole is streaming directly into our regions. Also remarkable is the fact that in a lot parts
of northern Canada it then is almost always much colder than on the North Pole itself. In a few days the frost period is over and

van de DAB(+) zenders in de federale deelstaat Thüringen (TH). Voor onze DX'ers in het buitenland heb ik de eerste aflevering ge-
plaatst van de nieuwe serie, genaamd “The DAB(+) transmitters in the Netherlands”. In deze aflevering staat informatie over de
DAB+ zenders in de provincie Nood-Holland (NH). In Polen is er flink aan de weg getimmerd, wat betreft de DAB+ zenders. Ik heb
de meest recente informatie (situatie: 1 januari 2020) hierover gepubliceerd.

GERMANY
☞ DAB+ network expands in Germany.
DAB+ has made significant progress in Germany in 2019 with a growth of up to 34% in certain fields. There are now over 260 DAB+
stations, 65 of which are exclusively digital. In November, a federal law mandating digital radio in cars and certain types of receivers
was also approved - it will be effective from the end of 2020. DAB+ receiver sales have also grown by 24% compared to 2018.

Private broadcasters in Austria have launched the biggest DAB+ campaign to date in the country, estimated at approximately 2
million euros. Austria launched national DAB+ earlier this year, and with population coverage already standing at 77%, most of Aus-

Recently another, eleventh station - Radio Piekary - has joined the LokalDAB multiplex in Wrocław.
The bitrate of all stations broadcast in it is currently 104 kbps. We would like to remind you that as part
of the project implemented by the Wrocław University of Technology, Polish Radio Wrocław and the
Institute of Telecommunications, you could already receive Radio Wrocław, Radio Wrocław Kultura,
Radio RAM, Academic Radio LUZ, Radio Rodzina, Radio Profeto, Radio LEM.fm, Disco Radio, Mega
Radio and Radio Note. MUX is broadcast on channel 11A (216.028 MHz) in a single frequency net-
work. Radio permits include emissions from the building of Radio Wrocław, the tower of the Institute of
Communications and the MPWiK tower at Długa Street. Each ERP power is 2.5 kW.
Thus, twenty three different programs are currently present in Wrocław in three DAB+ multiplexes. In
addition to these, they are Radio MUZO.FM, Radio Maryja, Radio Kolor and Radio Kampus as part of
the service provided by BCAST and Jedynka, Dwójka, Trójka, Czwórka, Polish Radio 24, Polish Radio
for Children, Polish Radio Chopin and Polish Radio for Foreigners in the package Polish Radio. Radio
Wrocław and Radio Wrocław Kultura programs are present simultaneously in LokalDAB and MUX PR,
AB). Wrocław / Żórawina. and Radio RAM, Disco Radio and Mega Radio in LokalDAB and DABCAST Wrocław.

Radio industry stakeholders in Spain are endorsing the uptake of DAB+ digital radio in Europe, and urging their government to follow

Zopas herinnerde ik me plotseling, dat ik destijds de BDXC had aangeschreven in de beginjaren als lid, wat betreft het dump-
materiaal uit dat vliegtuig. Zo had ik een brief gericht aan de BENEBUS met de vraag of iemand mij kon helpen aan gegevens be-
treffende: - de volgende coaxkabels: AMPHENOL RG-58C/U en RG-71/U I.T.&T. Federal cable R.E.C. RG-58C/U en RG-8A/U.
- het coaxiaal relay; aan de binnen nog de gegevens: Type 6311.1 PRICE ELEC. CORP. Frederick,Md. USA.
Kort daarna (in 1973) kreeg ik antwoord met een nog met de hand geschreven brief van P.J.R. Jansen, de toenmalige TV redacteur.
Beteffende de RG-58/U gaf Piet antwoord, dat het zoals bijna alle kabels in militaire aparatuur 50 Ohm was. Later heb ik dan een
adres gevonden om een catalogus aan te vragen voor AMPHENOL en heb dan alle gegevens van de kabels daarin teruggevonden.
Zo wist ik b.v., dat de RG-71/U een 93 Ohm(+ - 5 ) coax is met verkortingsfaktor 0,84. Het is maar een kort stukje, welke ik gebruikt
heb om één of ander koppelstuk te maken voor 2 UHF antennes.
Betreffende het relay moest ik "zoals met alle dumpmaterialen het proberen zelf uit te zoeken omdat er meestal géén gegevens
bekend zijn". Daarin had hij groot gelijk, vooral omdat er toen nog geen internet was. Het relay is wellicht ook een 50 Ohm uitvoering
en werkte ook goed op UHF. Later heb ik hem aangeschreven en wel o.a. over een sperfilter voor een UHF-kanaal, over een derde
Nederlands programma en over een verdubbeling van het vermogen van de zender Goes; ook betreffende een artikel die ik had ge-
lezen over spiraalantennes. Telkens kreeg ik dan een uitvoerig antwoord over die onderwerpen, waarvan ik alles heb bij gehouden.

**** ROTOR TROUBLES... ****
I have been working on repairing my AL1530 loop aerial. The Conrad aerial rotor jammed in April 2019. It is impossible to obtain new
rotors from Conrad as the demand for light weight rotors is now small. It is possible to obtain new rotors from the USA via Amazon
for about USD 100. I have found an older rotor in the loft that had jammed, this was an AR-303x. There was extensive corrosion but
once this had been clean and washed out with WD40 the jam was freed, I have dismantled the rotor, cleaned, regreased and hope
to replace the damaged motor.
I found that the control box for the Conrad will also work with the AR-303x - both are 3 wire control cable.

“We Transfer”. Dit ter voorkoming van problemen met (bijna) volle electronische postbus-
sen. Ik heb namelijk al vrij vaak een DXR magazine wat later opnieuw moeten verzen-
den omdat een electronische postbus van een geadresseerde bijna vol was.
