People sometimes think Manoj and Mahesh are brothers. But in fact, they are
just good friends. They have known each other since they were in grade one.
They know each other very well as they study in the same grade in the same
school and they meet regularly. They are even closer because they are in the
same football team at school. Every Friday, Sunday, and Tuesday, they go for
training. They are die-heart fans of football. Manoj plays with jersey no 7
whereas Mahesh plays with jersey no 10. Both of them are excellent players.

They say playing football is their hobby. They love playing because they feel
relaxed after play a game. They also think the game has helped them to study
better as well. They say “Relaxed mind can learn better and faster. We
sometimes practise vocabulary and mathematics formulas along with football
moves. We do remember the moves nicely and that, in turn, helps us
remember the formula.”
Grade 6 unit 8 Exercise 19 and 20
Hello, everybody! These are the pictures of the same school in
Kathmandu. Actually, this is the first school in Nepal. First Rana PM,
Jung Bahadur Rana, after returning from his Europe visit in 1854,
opened a school like that used to be in Europe.
When it was opened, Jung Bahadaur wanted his family to be educated
in western style. Thus, it was kept at Durbar or palace. Since it was in
the palace, they used to shift the school from one palace to the next as
the ruler got changed. At first, the school used to be at Thapathali
Durbar, the private building of Junga Bahadur. Later it was shifted to
Seto Durbar and Narayanhiti Palace. Finally, in 1891, the then PM Bir
Shumsher got a long building constructed by the side of Rani Pokhari
at Jamal and shifted the school to the building. Since then the building
has been there.
After shifting the school to Jamal, the school was left open to the
public. However, the Ranas used to bully the public students at
school. The students except the ruling class used to have a very hard
time there.
Now the school is open for all. It is different from what it used to be
some 100 years ago. Now, the school has all the modern facilities.
After the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake damaged the old building built by
Bir Shamsher, it has been reconstructed. Earlier the school used to
have Rana-time wooden ladders and old-style windows and rooms but
now the building is made of concrete. There used to be a high wall
around it but now a bar has been constructed. However, its colour has
been maintained.
