Chromium/Chromate

DR 900 Analytical Procedure AP-20/900

SPECIFICATIONS
Method: Colorimetric (DR 900)
Range: 0.01 to 0.60 ppm Cr+6
Testing Time: 10 Minutes

DESCRIPTION
Using the Nalco DR 900 colorimeter, hexavalent
chromium is determined by the 1,5-diphenylcarbo
hydrazide method using a single dry powder
formulation called CR-3 Reagent. This reagent
contains an acidic buffer combined with 1,
5-diphenylcarbohydrazide, which reacts to give a
purple color which is proportional to the amount of
chromate (hexavalent chromium).

INTERFERENCES
The following may interfere when present in con-
centrations exceeding those listed below.

1 mg/L = 1 ppm
Mercurous & Interferes slightly
Mercuric Ions
Iron 1 ppm
Vanadium 1 ppm. Vanadium interference can
be overcome by waiting ten minutes
before reading.

Highly buffered samples or extreme sample pH

may exceed the buffering capacity of the reagents
and require sample pretreatment.
